Folders are an organizational tool available to all Vimeo members. Accessible through your Video Manager, folders help you sort your videos as you see fit and there is no limit to the number of folders you can create.
Folders function differently depending on your membership type:
- For Pro, Business, and Premium members, folders are a private workspace for collaboration. Contributor team members added to a folder can upload, manage, replace, and embed videos within that specific folder. Uploader team members added to a specific folder can also upload content to the folder directly from their own account.
- For Plus and Basic members, folders are not shareable, linkable, or visible to anyone but the account owner (if you’d like to create groupings of videos to share, you’ll want to make a showcase, group, or channel).
✦ Creating and adding videos to folders
To create folders and manage the videos inside them, log in to your Vimeo account and then go to your Videos page. On the left sidebar, you can either click the plus sign (+) next to "Videos," or click + New Folder in the upper right corner to create a new folder. This will open up a lightbox where you can name your folder, designate team members, and enable the Slack integration. When you click "Create," your brand new folder will appear in the left navigation! Once you see it, you’ll be able to drag and drop videos into it.
The “Videos” option in the left navigation menu takes you to a list of all your videos and folders. You can move videos from one folder to another by going into the first folder, selecting the videos you want to move, and dragging and dropping them into the other folder in the left hand navigation panel. When you’re in the “All videos” view, you can also move videos not currently in a folder into a folder by selecting multiple videos at once by clicking the check box, and then dragging and dropping them to the desired folder.
It’s not possible to put one video into multiple folders.
✦ Inviting contributors to folders
Pro, Business, and Premium members can use folders for collaboration. Any admins you’ve added to your account will have access to all your folders. You can limit access to a specific folder by adding a team member as a contributor. Contributors can upload, replace, embed, and manage settings for videos within the folder they’re invited to, but they can’t see other folders or videos, and can’t invite other contributors.
You can also add a contributor directly to a folder from your Videos page. Select the folder you want to add a contributor to, click the + icon (between your profile picture and the Videos page search bar) to pull up a menu that shows all the team members currently on the folder (by default, it’s just you). Click “Add,” type in the email address of the contributor (associated with their personal Vimeo account if they’ve already created one), then hit the “Send” button to invite them to your folder.
Once logged in, Contributors will see the option to switch between your account and their own from their profile picture menu or by the team switcher on their home page. Then once they see the Videos page for that team, they will be able to only see the folders that they have been invited to.
You can track changes team members make to one of your videos on the History tab in its settings.
✦ Editing and deleting folders
If you hover over the folder, you’ll see an ... icon appear. Clicking the icon will give you the options to “Rename” or “Delete”. Choosing the “Delete” will bring up a confirmation module to delete the folder, with the option to delete the videos within the folder as well.
✦ Sharing the review page of all the videos in a folder
Vimeo Pro and above-level members can now share the review pages for all of the videos in a folder by clicking the Share button on the folder page (located below your profile picture, to the left of the folder settings icon) or within the review page of a video that is in the folder:
At the bottom of the modal window that pops up, click “Enable” to access the shareable link. You can then copy the link to share it with reviewers.
