As a Vimeo member, you can customize your profile in several ways. You can add one of your videos (or a clip of one) as a cover video to loop at the top of your profile, and you can choose the order in which your videos appear on the page. You can also upload a profile picture, choose a custom Vimeo URL, and include a short bio with links to your other sites.
✦ Profile settings
You can get to your profile settings by clicking the blue “Edit” button at the top right corner of your profile, and then selecting “Profile settings.” This will bring you to a page where you can edit the “Basic info” field of your profile. On this page, you’ll be able to:
- Upload profile pictures (recommended dimensions are 600x600).
- Write a short bio that will appear on the front page of your profile (160 characters max).
- Write a description that will appear on your About page (2000 characters max).
- List a location that will appear on your About page.
- Create a custom URL (like vimeo.com/staff).
- Add links to social sites (they appear as icons on your profile page and on your About page). Please note that you'll only be able to add links to social sites once your account has been verified.
- Add your professional experience (if you're Plus, PRO, Business or Premium-level).
✦ Cover video
Make your Vimeo profile your own and show your viewers a glimpse of your work by adding a custom cover video. You can choose an entire video, or just a clip, to play silently on loop at the top of your profile.
To get started, click on the blue “Edit” button on the top right side of your profile page and select “Cover video.” In the module that pops up, select one of your videos — public or private — and hit “Next.” On the following screen, you have the option to trim your video so only a portion of it plays back on loop at the top of your profile. If you want the whole video to play, just click “Next” again without doing anything.
Clicking “Next” takes you to a screen where you can click and drag to reposition the video. This crop of your video has a max aspect ratio of 1:3.33 — for example, 1920x540 — but will change based on the width of the browser viewing your profile. When you’re happy with how things look, hit “Save.”
Cover videos are supported on most desktop browsers, but aren't supported on mobile.
✦ Profile videos
In addition to selecting a cover video, you can also choose the order in which your videos appear on your profile page by pinning them. To get started, click on the blue “Edit” button on your profile page, and then choose “Profile videos.” This will bring you to a page where you’ll be able to pin videos and rearrange them by dragging and dropping them to change their order. (Only your public videos can be pinned to appear on your profile.)
Pin a video in place by clicking on the pin icon in the corner of each video. If you no longer want to feature a video, you can always click the icon again to unpin the video. Once you’re done pinning and ordering your videos, unpinned videos will appear after pinned videos, newest first.
Someone viewing your profile page sees your pinned videos first. If they want to load more videos, they can do so by clicking “Load more” at the bottom of the page. The “Load more” button will load ten videos at a time as long as you have more videos to show.
If you choose not to pin any videos to your page, your videos will display in chronological order, newest first.
You can also pin videos that you’ve appeared in as long as someone has credited you. Videos that you’ve appeared and been credited in will appear in the “Profile videos” menu with a message that says “This video is hidden because someone credited you in it. Pinning this video will make it appear on your profile.” Pinning these videos is the only way to make them show up on your profile page.
Plus, PRO, and Business members can pin unlimited videos, and members with Basic accounts can pin up to ten videos. Only public videos may be pinned to show up on your profile.
✦ Retired profile page design
If you joined Vimeo before October 2016, you probably saw the old profile page design. While the old profile page was very near and dear to our hearts, we saw a few major issues with it:
- The old page didn’t allow creators to personalize their page
- You couldn’t choose the order of the videos
- There wasn’t a proper place to include links to your sites and social channels
- They were looking pretty cluttered and antiquated near the end!
The new profile pages allow creators to customize the page more by adding a cover video. Plus, PRO, and Business creators can feature all their public videos and choose the order in which they appear, and add links to their other places on the web more elegantly.
✦ Hiding your profile from Vimeo
If you'd prefer to to hide your profile from Vimeo, you'll need to enable Private Mode on your account. Basic and Vimeo Plus members will need to upgrade to Vimeo PRO or Business to unlock Private Mode.
