As a Vimeo member, you can customize your profile in several ways. You can add one of your videos (or a clip of one) as a cover video to loop at the top of your profile, choose the order in which your videos appear on the page, and select a featured video to showcase your work. You can also upload a profile picture, choose a custom Vimeo URL, include a short bio with links to your other sites, and highlight your skills and work to get hired.
✦ Profile settings
You can get to your profile settings by hovering over your profile image and clicking the blue “Edit Profile” link.
If you’re already on your profile page, you can also click the blue “Edit” button located in the top right hand corner.
This will bring you to a page where you can edit the “General” information of your profile.
On this page, you’ll be able to:
- Upload profile pictures (recommended dimensions are 600x600).
- Write a short bio that will appear on the front page of your profile (160 characters max).
- Write a description that will appear on your About page (2000 characters max).
- List a location that will appear on your About page.
- Create a custom URL (like vimeo.com/staff). Please note that custom URLs can only include letters and numbers.
- Add links to social sites (they appear as icons on your profile page and on your About page). Please note that you'll only be able to add links to social sites once your account has been verified.
- Add your professional experience (if you're Plus, PRO, Business, or Premium-level).
Looking to get hired for work? From the “Work” section of your profile settings, you can highlight your skills and experience by setting the following:
- Available for hire status
- Featured Video (on by default)
- Project types (what you’ve worked on)
- Description of yourself (freelance profession, brand/studio, brand/business)
✦ Cover video
Make your Vimeo profile your own and show your viewers a glimpse of your work by adding a custom cover video. You can choose an entire video, or just a clip, to play silently on loop at the top of your profile.
To get started, click on the blue “Edit” button on the top right side of your profile page and select “Cover video.” In the module that pops up, select one of your videos — public or private — and hit “Next.” On the following screen, you have the option to trim your video so only a portion of it plays back on loop at the top of your profile. If you want the whole video to play, just click “Next” again without doing anything.
Clicking “Next” takes you to a screen where you can click and drag to reposition the video. This crop of your video has a max aspect ratio of 1:3.33 — for example, 1920x540 — but will change based on the width of the browser viewing your profile. When you’re happy with how things look, hit “Save.”
Cover videos are supported on most desktop browsers, but aren't supported on mobile browsers.
✦ Profile videos/pinned videos
In addition to selecting a cover video, you can also choose the order in which your videos appear on your profile page by pinning them. To get started, click on the blue “Edit” button on your profile page, and then choose “Profile videos.” This will bring you to a page where you’ll be able to pin videos and rearrange them by dragging and dropping them to change their order. (Only your public videos can be pinned to appear on your profile.)
Pin a video in place by clicking on the pin icon in the corner of each video. If you no longer want to feature a video, you can always click the icon again to unpin the video. Once you’re done pinning and ordering your videos, unpinned videos will appear after pinned videos, newest first.
Someone viewing your profile page sees your pinned videos first. If they want to load more videos, they can do so by clicking “Load more” at the bottom of the page. The “Load more” button will load ten videos at a time as long as you have more videos to show.
If you choose not to pin any videos to your page, your videos will display in chronological order, newest first.
You can also pin videos that you’ve appeared in as long as someone has credited you. Videos that you’ve appeared and been credited in will appear in the “Profile videos” menu with a message that says “This video is hidden because someone credited you in it. Pinning this video will make it appear on your profile.” Pinning these videos is the only way to make them show up on your profile page.
✦ Featured video
A featured video is a central video that can play directly on your profile. Featured videos are a great way to highlight your work and professional experience.
Note that the featured video will sit above any videos you have previously pinned to your profile. To re-order your profile videos (including the featured video), from the profile page click on Edit > Profile videos to drag and drop.
To edit your featured video, you can also visit your profile settings page and then click on the “Work” section (vimeo.com/settings/profile/work). From here, you can add, change, or remove a featured video from your profile page.
Featured videos are enabled for all Vimeo profiles by default. To remove a featured video, be sure to uncheck “Show on profile” beneath the featured video section of your profile settings.
✦ Profile videos on the mobile site and in mobile apps
Plus, PRO, Business, and Premium members can pin unlimited videos, and members with Basic accounts can pin up to ten videos. Only public videos may be pinned to show up on your profile.
If you're looking at your profile videos on the mobile site, you'll notice that they appear in reverse-chronological order according to upload date. If you're logged in to your own account, you'll also see your own private videos in reverse-chronological order. You won't see your pinned profile videos on the mobile site — reverse-chronological order will take precedence.
In the Android and iOS apps, you'll see profile videos in the creator's specified order.
✦ Hiding your profile from Vimeo
If you'd prefer to hide your profile from Vimeo, you'll need to enable Private Mode on your account. Basic and Vimeo Plus members will need to upgrade to Vimeo PRO, Business, or Premium to unlock Private Mode.
