At Vimeo, we’re committed to growing our team using the most ethical recruiting practices to ensure all potential candidates have a positive, respectful and fair interview process. Recently, third parties posing as Vimeo recruiters have been attempting to defraud potential candidates. These scammers find Vimeo employees on LinkedIn, create fake email addresses using the employees’ names, and then contact potential candidates with the goal of obtaining personal banking information or requiring the candidate to make a purchase.
To protect you and your personal data, we wanted to share how Vimeo’s recruiters operate so you can know when you’re responding to a valid opportunity — and when you’re dealing with a scammer. In short, watch out for the following:
- Job postings that are not published at Jobs at Vimeo
- Links that redirect to websites not using the vimeo.com domain
- Emails from persons who do not have a @vimeo.com email address
- Requests for social security number or financial information
- Requests to make a purchase that will be “reimbursed”
- Requests to transfer funds
- Interview requests without contact from someone with a @vimeo.com email address
- Job offers without a full interview process (as described below)
I. JOB POSTINGS
Official job postings from Vimeo can be always found on our jobs page (vimeo.com/jobs), LinkedIn, and Glassdoor. Occasionally, our recruiters will also post jobs on other job boards or social media groups that have more industry-specific focus, such as the CMO Club or Association of Corporate Counsel, among others.
If you see a job posting for Vimeo that is not on one of these sites, it is likely a scam post. To verify, go to Jobs at Vimeo and see if the job is posted on our site. If it is, please apply through that site. If it is not posted on our jobs page, it is fraudulent and should be ignored.
II. VIMEO RECRUITERS
If you receive an email about a job opportunity or offer at Vimeo, the first thing you should do is check the email address. Vimeo only uses internal recruiters and their email addresses end with @vimeo.com. If you see an email with @gmail.com or some other domain that is not vimeo.com, it is likely a phishing email and you should not reply to it.
III. INTERVIEW PROCESS
Vimeo’s recruiting process involves the following steps:
- First, a Vimeo recruiter (with a vimeo.com email address) will contact you and set up a time to do a phone screen with you. They would be your main point of contact throughout the process.
- Second, if you are selected for a follow-up interview, you will have a phone or video call with the hiring manager or other senior member of the Vimeo team.
- Third, if you are selected to proceed to the next round, you will be invited to an onsite or remote face-to-face (video call) interview with a panel of Vimeo employees.
Throughout this process, you should see emails ending in @vimeo.com. Also, our interviews take place over video calls or in one of our many global offices. If you receive an invitation for an onsite interview that asks you to come to a different location, it is likely fraudulent and should be declined.
IV. PERSONAL INFORMATION
During the recruiting process, we only ask for the following information before making an offer: (1) a link to your LinkedIn profile (if you have one), (2) your resume, and (3) a completed Vimeo application. We will not, however, ask for your social security number or a bank account number. Nor will we ask you to purchase anything or transfer funds. If you are asked for financial information or to engage in any financial transaction, you are dealing with a scammer.
V. JOB OFFERS
Vimeo only makes offers once the entire interview process is complete. If someone contacts you over email or phone about an offer and you have not completed all parts of this process, it is fraudulent.
VI. REPORTING SCAMS
Please help us fight recruiting scams by reporting suspicious job postings and fake "recruiters" to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will also verify whether a particular posting is indeed legitimate.
