You can increase viewer engagement during your live events by opening polls and question-and-answer (Q&A) sessions directly in your event. This is available alongside the live chat feature.
To ensure either of these features works, make sure you enable chat when first setting up your event.
Our Live Polls feature allows you to insert questions into your live stream for viewers to respond to via Vimeo Live Chat. Polls can be used to gather feedback from viewers (answers ranked by percentage) or as a quiz (one option being the correct response). You can have as many polls as you’d like per stream, but only one poll may be open at a time.
To create a poll, make sure you’ve toggled Live Chat on from the live settings page for your live event. Once you have set up your live event, you can see a “Polls” tab to the left side of the page, where you can create your poll.
After clicking "Create poll," you will be prompted to enter the question to display, up to four options, and the optional ability to mark one option as the correct choice by clicking the star icon associated with that option.
Once your poll has been created and you are live, you can select “Open poll” to show this poll and allow viewers to participate.
Opened polls will be pinned to the beginning of the live chat so it will be visible to all viewers. You can keep your poll open for as long as you’d like. While open, you can choose to “Show graphic” which will show the poll options on the stream itself. The percentages for each option will continue to changes as more viewers partake.
Once your viewers have had enough time to submit their response, clicking “Publish results” will close the poll so no more responses can be accepted. You can continue to use the “Show graphic/Hide graphic” button to display or hide the final results. Once your poll has concluded and you no longer need the results, you can remove it by clicking “Archive.”
Keep in mind that the results will not be stored anywhere on your Vimeo account after your event so be sure to take note of them before removing them.
Live Q&A is a new feature for our Live Chat, allowing you to engage with your audience in new ways. With this feature, you can accept questions, have viewers vote to order questions based on popularity, publish the question to the stream, and ultimately answer them.
To get started with Q&A, make sure you enable live chat on the live settings page and then click “next” when ready to go live. Once your stream is live, you can enable Q&A from the Live Preview page by selecting the question tab on the left side, then clicking "Start Q&A."
This will notify your chat users that they can begin to submit questions through Live Chat. Viewers in both your on-site and embedded live chat can participate in live Q&A. Using the dropdown menu, you can view your questions by selecting Popular Questions, Most Recent, and Archived to see the answered/rejected questions.
When you’d like to answer a question, select the question and then click answer.
You then have the option to show graphic which publishes the question to your stream as a lower-third.
When you’ve finished answering the question, click archive to remove the graphic overlay and remove the question from the list. You may also archive questions without answering them or publishing them to the stream.
To end your Q&A session, click End Q&A below the list of questions.
Please note that ending Q&A does not end the live chat. Live chat will end as soon as the broadcast ends and will not be available afterward. At this time, transcripts of live chat, poll results, and Q&A are not available after a stream concludes.
