Add a background image to an event scene – Vimeo Help Center

If you are streaming a recurring event or webinar using our web-based production tool page, you have the ability to add multiple guest speakers to a scene, creating a virtual panel.

When you do this, the speakers' cameras are arranged in a default layout and, depending on the number of guests, create black background within the player. You can use the Images panel to create a background image to fill in this black space.

Add a background image to a multi-speaker scene

Open your event's management page, then click Manage production, then Stream with Vimeo to go to the web-based production tool page. To add the background image:

In the left navigation menu, open the Images panel.
If you haven’t already, click Add Image to upload your image.
Select the scene your speakers are in below the preview player.
Click and drag your image into the preview player to apply the background image to the scene. Alternatively, click the image’s ••• menu, then click Add to scene.
The image will be behind all the camera inputs from your speakers, filling in the black space.

Recommended image specifications for multi-speaker scenes

When adding an image to an event scene, we recommend the following specifications:

File type: PNG or JPG
- Note: If your image has a transparent background, that will apply when uploading it to your Vimeo event. If you truly want to fill the screen, make sure the background is filled.
Dimensions: 1920x1080
Size: 5MB

Our web-based production tool page adds speaker inputs in layouts that currently cannot be rearranged. Below are details for the space available for a background image outside of those inputs (e.g. for showing your event’s hashtag or organization’s logo, or building a frame around the inputs). Note that scenes with one speaker will fill the entire screen.

Two speakers

Two speakers will take up the middle portion of the screen side by side, giving you up to 271 pixels above and below the sources to work with.

Three speakers

When adding three speakers, the top two speakers will take up the entire top half of the player, with the third speaker taking up the middle of the bottom half, giving you a 420x542 space in the bottom two corners.

Four speakers

Four speakers will fill up all four corners of the player in its entirely. You won't see any background behind the speakers and thus will not see your background image.

Five speakers

Five speakers will fill the middle of the screen, with three across the top and two below them. You will have space above and below all the sources, with some extra space in the bottom corners. Refer to the image below for exact pixel dimensions.

Six speakers

Six speakers will arrange your inputs in two rows of three. The upper and lower thirds of the player will have 180 pixels of vertical space for your image.

Seven speakers

Seven speakers will create two rows of three filling up the top two-thirds of the screen, with the seventh speaker taking up the middle bottom of the player. The bottom two corners of the player will show your image, with 640x360px of space available in each.
