The video detail page is the main landing page for video playback within a branded app. If a user goes to the video detail page but does not have access to the video, they’ll see options for how to watch the video.
On iOS, tvOS, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku branded apps, customers will see options for in-app purchasing.
⚠️Note: Samsung/Tizen TV and Xbox devices currently do not support in-app purchases and will, instead, direct users to the web.
In this article, learn about:
- Subscription Products
- Buy or Rent Products
- The “Buy” or “Rent” purchase flow
- Customize Displayed Pricing for Buy/Rent products.
Subscription Products
If the video belongs to a Subscription product (SVOD), a button will appear to show the user how to subscribe to watch the video.
Depending on the case, the button will display either:
-
Watch free:
- The product is available as part of a Free Registration product.
-
Start free trial:
- The product is available as part of a Paid product in a Free Trial.
-
Subscribe:
- The product is available as part of a Paid product or as part of a Free Trial that the user is no longer eligible for.
💡Tip: As a rule, we will always show the cheapest option first. Customers will be able to choose from other options if they wish.

Buy or Rent Products
If the video belongs to a Buy or Rent (TVOD) product, a button will appear to show the user how to Buy or Rent the video.
Depending on the case, the button will display either:
-
Buy
- The video is available in a Buy product.
-
Rent
- The video is available in a Rent product.
-
Buy or Rent
The video is available in both a Buy product and a Rent product.

The “Buy” or “Rent” purchase flow
When a user taps “Buy”, “Rent”, or “Buy or rent” from the video detail page, they’ll go through the purchase flow.
If the video belongs to multiple products, the user will be able to select “Also available in” to see all the available Buy, Rent, and/or Subscription products where the video exists.
Customize Displayed Pricing for Buy/Rent products.
If a viewer has accessed a video from a Collection, the price shown on the “Buy” and “Rent” buttons will be the Buy or Rent price of the Collection, respectively. Learn more about setting up Collections at 'Creating Collections'.
If a user does not access a video from a Collection, then Vimeo OTT will use the order of products on the Products page in the OTT Admin to understand which price to show.
For example, if a user viewed a video belonging to 'Buy Product' and 'Buy/Rent Product B', OTT would show a button that reads “Buy for $9.99”. This is because 'Buy Product' is ranked higher than Buy/Rent Product B.
