You can control when the “Up Next” overlay appears during playback. Instead of waiting until the video ends, trigger it during end credits so viewers move to the next episode sooner. The overlay shows a thumbnail, episode number, and title with a countdown to the next video. Viewers can dismiss it at any time to keep watching.
You can set the overlay timing at three levels:
- Site-wide default—applies to all videos on your site
- Collection-level override—overrides the site default for every video in that collection
- Per-video override—overrides both the site and collection defaults
Each level lets you choose how many seconds before the end of the video the overlay appears.
Setting a site-wide default
- Log in to your Vimeo OTT admin
- Go to Manage > Site in the navigation bar
- On the Content tab, scroll to the Up Next section
- Enter the number of seconds before the end of the video that the overlay should appear
- Click Save
This default applies to all videos unless you override it at the collection or video level.
Setting a collection-level override
- Log in to your Vimeo OTT admin
- Go to Content > Collections and select the collection you want to configure
- In the collection’s general settings, find the Up Next Offset option and set your timing
- Click Save
This value applies to every video in the collection unless you override it on an individual video.
Setting a per-video override
- Log in to your Vimeo OTT admin
- Go to Content > Videos and select the video you want to configure
- In the video’s general settings, find the Up Next Offset option and set your timing
- Click Save
This value takes priority over both the site default and any collection-level setting.
Note: If you don’t set a custom timing at any level, the overlay appears at the end of the video by default.
Tip: For episodic content with credits that run 30 seconds or longer, showing the overlay early encourages viewers to keep watching and increases session length.
