Why unique viewer counts have been updated
Vimeo's previous method of identifying viewers relied on an older technology that became less effective as browsers evolved. We've updated this technology to work reliably with modern browsers, giving you a much more accurate count of the viewers who are actually watching your videos.
What to expect in your analytics
For some Vimeo users, unique viewer counts will have increased. Those viewers were always there — our previous viewer-identification technology simply wasn't able to register them. With this update, you get a much more accurate picture of your viewer count.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my unique viewer counts look higher than they did before?
This is the expected result of the update. Your viewer counts are now more accurate, capturing sessions that were previously excluded by modern browsers.
Does this affect my historical data?
No. Analytics data from before this update is not affected. The improvement applies only to sessions recorded after May 8, 2026.
