Recently, we have seen a significant increase in DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown notices filed by or on behalf of Universal Music Group. This escalation has surprised some of our creators, who may have seen videos that were uploaded in the past now being removed.
While the volume of takedown notices is having an impact on the number of users affected, Vimeo’s policies for handling these claims hasn't changed. Because we rely on the DMCA to provide an open creative platform that protects the rights of all artists, when we are notified that a video contains unauthorized copyrighted material, we are required to take action. This involves pulling that video down while also implementing a system that prevents repeat infringers from continuing to use our service.
