Every developer who wants to use the Vimeo API must create an API application on the Developer Site. This article explains how to create an API app that provides credentials to facilitate communication between your app/service and our API.
In this article:
What to know before creating an API app
Before you create an API app, take note of the following:
- If you are a team member of another Vimeo account, you must log in as the primary account holder to create an app and interact with the Developer Site as that account.
- You can create as many apps as needed (e.g., separate “dev” and “production” apps), provided that your account and apps comply with our Developer Guidelines.
How to create an API app
You can create an API app from the Developer Site. To do so:
- After logging into your Vimeo account, navigate to the Vimeo Developer API page.
- Select the +Create an app button in the top-right corner of the page.
- Enter a name and a brief description for your app. This can be edited later.
- Select whether Vimeo accounts besides yours will be able to access your app.
- Review the terms and agreements and agree that your application does not violate the Vimeo API License Agreement or the Vimeo Terms of Service.
- Select Create app.
- You can find the list of your API apps on the Developer Site.
From here, you’ll be taken to the app management page, where you can add further details about your app, get your client_id and client_secret values, create personal access tokens, and more.
