What is continuous or extended streaming?
Continuous streaming allows you to broadcast without time limitations. You can stream video content from an encoder 24/7 using this mode.
When Extended stream is enabled, your live event will remain active for viewers as long as there is an incoming video signal from the encoder. With this mode enabled, the encoder can remain connected continuously so that you don’t need to intervene and restart it.
How can I enable continuous streaming?
Once you have created your live event you can enable extended streaming on the event settings page. See How to enable extended streaming for more information.
Can I enable DVR or recording for an extended stream?
No, DVR and recording are not available for extended streams. These options will be automatically disabled when the Extended stream toggle is on.
If you need to save a recording of your stream, we recommend using an encoder or external recorder to save the content locally.
Can I simulcast my event when extended streaming is enabled?
No, simulcasting to other destinations is not available for extended streams.
Can I enable extended streaming while in Live production mode?
No, extended streaming is only available for RTMP streams.
Is extended streaming compatible with Vimeo Events API?
Yes, events with extended streaming are available via the API for Playback. You can also use API variables to enable or disable extended streaming while creating or managing live events.
Vimeo Events API is available with an Enterprise plan as an add-on.
