Creating a venue requires an Enterprise account with the Events add-on.
This article provides an overview of how to enter a virtual venue hosted on Vimeo and some exciting features available to you as an attendee to make your event experience as engaging as possible.

Enter a Venue
You can access the Venue directly through the provided link.
When you arrive at your event cover page, you will need to log in with a Vimeo account to enter the event. You can use an existing one or create a free Vimeo account in a few easy steps. Logging in automatically pulls in your avatar photo and name from your Vimeo account. Based on the custom registration fields set, you may have to also answer optional or required questions.
After you click Enter venue, you will be able to see the Main Stage and the rest of the attendees who have joined. The center action bar will help you navigate through creating reactions, switching view modes, raising your hand, replying to group or 1-1 chat messages, presenting your screen, and engaging with embedded 3rd party widgets
Reactions give you a non-verbal way to respond to content during the event. Reactions are temporary gifs that display within your avatar bubble, replacing your profile picture or webcam.
You can find the Reactions panel by clicking on the smiling face emoji in the center action bar. From there you can select a pre-existing reaction to post or, if enabled, you can search through Giphy to find one that best expresses you. You can even record your own using your webcam.
Group chat supports uploading images, adding emojis, and threaded replies. 1:1 chat or Direct messaging is also supported in your Venue. To start a direct message with another person, click on their profile picture in the theater view mode, or use the People menu to find the person you are looking for, hover over their name, and click the Chat bubble.
Switch view modes
There are a few different views available to help you stay focused and organized. You can switch among these views with the bar in the top right corner of your screen.
The different view modes are
- Split screen view - This enables you to view both the stage and all the attendees on your screen.
- Theater view - This maximizes the stage to a fullscreen view and the speaker appears on top of the content.
- Fullscreen view - This is similar to the Theatre view, but you will not see the attendees.
- Picture in picture (PIP) - This view makes the stage a small floating window and enables you to work on other things (in other tabs!) while watching the presentation. In the PIP, you will be able to see both the stage and the speakers. This is only available in Google Chrome.
Participate in discussions in the virtual venue
Admins can choose to have their virtual venues “moderated,” which restricts the ability to automatically turn on your microphone and camera. If you are participating in a moderated Virtual Venue, you will need to request permission from the admin via the Raise hand feature in the action bar at the bottom of your screen.
Once the admin grants you access, you can then turn on your camera and microphone and participate in the event, similar to a video call. Admins can revoke this permission as needed.
Presenting in a venue space
In addition to being part of the general discussion, the action toolbar has the option for certain attendees to present on the stage in that space.
When you click Present to Stage on the action toolbar, you can choose to present either your camera or your screen. While you are sharing a presentation on stage, you can choose to disable your camera and appear as your avatar instead.
You can switch between presenting your camera or your screen to the stage using the Present to stage option while presenting. When you are ready to get off stage, click Present to stage, then Stop.
If you do not see the option to Present to Stage in the action bar in a Venue space and you were expecting to, contact your event runner for further information.
If enabled for the venue you’re in, third-party widgets can enhance audience interactivity and further personalize your event experience. Some examples of widgets that can be added are Slido for Q&A, booking a meeting via Calendly, seeing a Twitter feed, and much more. These will be accessible from the action toolbar at the bottom of your screen, similar to chat.
