When you land on a virtual venue cover page on Vimeo, you can test if your browser, network configuration, camera, microphone, and speakers are compatible with venues. This article discusses how to test your environment and how to resolve errors you may see when doing so.
In this article:
- Test your venue connection and browser compatibility
- Check your camera, microphone, and speakers before entering a virtual venue
- I’m having camera or microphone issues in the venue
- Error: Your browser is not supported
- Error: Low performance detected
- Error: Venue cannot connect to the stream, audio, or chat
Test your venue connection and browser compatibility
If you arrive on the virtual venue page before the event starts, you have the option to check if your connection and browser are compatible with venues.
- On the venue cover page, select Test connection.
- A modal window will open and start checking your environment. This will check:
- Your browser and its compatibility with Venues
- Your network bandwidth
- Your network firewalls
- After a moment, the test will finish and indicate if you have any issues that may prevent you from connecting successfully to the virtual event. Read on if you receive an error message.
- Click Done to close the connection test modal window.
If you arrive on the virtual venue page after the event has started, you will not see a Test connection button. Instead, when you select Enter venue, the venue will automatically check for compatibility issues. Read on for troubleshooting any of the errors you may encounter.
Check your camera, microphone, and speakers before entering a virtual venue
Before you enter a virtual venue on Vimeo, you can confirm that your video and audio configuration is working as desired. To do so:
- On the venue cover page, select the camera settings icon in the upper right corner.
- A modal window will open with a preview of your camera’s video output.
- Open the Camera dropdown to change your source, if desired.
- If you wish to mirror your video, tick the box next to Mirror my video.
- Open the Microphone dropdown menu to change your audio output source.
- Open the Speakers dropdown menu to choose a different audio input source.
- Once your audio and video settings are configured as desired, close the modal window using the X in the upper right corner.
I’m having camera or microphone issues in the venue
If the venue does not recognize your camera or microphone, there may be permissions you need to enable first.
- Check your browser’s privacy and security settings.
- In most browsers, find and select a padlock or camera icon next to the URL, then allow your camera and microphone.
- Check your system’s privacy and security settings.
-
- Close your browser.
- If using Windows:
- Close your browser.
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Make sure Camera access is turned on.
- Go back to Privacy & security, then select Microphone.
- Make sure Microphone access is turned on.
- Relaunch your browser and return to the venue page.
- If using macOS:
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
- Select Privacy > Camera.
- Check the box for your browser.
- Navigate back and go to Privacy > Microphone.
- Check the box for your browser.
- Relaunch your browser and return to the venue page.
-
If you’ve already done the above and the camera and/or microphone are still not functioning, check the following:
- Close any applications that may be accessing your camera and microphone.
- Ensure your camera is connected to your computer and turned on.
- Restart your browser or your computer.
Error: Your browser is not supported
If the venue shows an error under Browser compatibility, make sure you are using the latest versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. Other browser applications may work, but only if they support WebGL 2.
Error: Low performance detected
If the venue connection test shows an error under Network bandwidth, this is due to your network speed being too slow to successfully view live video in the virtual event.
We recommend your network has a minimum download speed of 10Mbps for attending an event in a virtual venue. If you are participating in the event (e.g. guest speaking, presenting), your network should have a minimum upload speed of 5Mbps.
If your current network does not have the minimum bandwidth, you should either:
- Try connecting to another network, if available.
- Remove other devices from the network that may be using up bandwidth.
- Troubleshoot your network speed with your Internet Service Provider.
Error: Venue cannot connect to the stream, audio, or chat
If the venue connection test shows an error under Firewall prevention, this means your network has firewalls or other security measures in place that are preventing Vimeo venues from communicating with you.
To resolve this, you or your IT administrator should configure your network as follows:
- Ensure the following ports are open:
- TCP 80
- TCP 443
- TCP 3433
- TCP 4700-5000
- TCP 5668
- TCP 5669
- TCP 6080

- UDP 3478
- UDP 4700-5000 (2.9.0 or later)
- UDP 10000-65535 (before 2.9.0)
- Ensure the following domains are allowed:
- .agora.io
- .sd-rtn.com

-
The below domains are optional but if you notice limited functionality in the venue, allow these domains as well:
