How to create a custom URL

This feature requires a paid Vimeo membership.

Using custom URLs can help brand and organize your content. This guide will show you how to create a custom URL to share with your viewers. Note that once shared, custom URLs will open in a mobile web browser rather than within the Vimeo app.

  1. Click on the link icon 🔗 on the top right side of the Video settings page.

Here, you can set the privacy settings by selecting 'Edit' after a description of the current privacy setting. You can also select the checkbox to start a video from a certain timestamp in the video. Finally, you can create a custom link for the video.
  2. In the field labeled Customize link, enter the desired custom URL for your video, consisting of only letters or numbers.
  3. Once the custom link is available, you will get a prompt on the settings page.

💡Tip: The format of custom video URLs is vimeo.com/username/thecustompart. For example, a video on our staff account about the Vimeo player has the custom URL: vimeo.com/staff/player.

Privacy settings for custom URLs

For custom URLs to work, your video must have one of the following privacy settings:

  • Unlisted or Hide from Vimeo
  • Share with Password
  • Private
  • Public

⚠️Note: If you are a Basic or Free user, you do not have access to create new custom URLs or to edit previously existing ones. Instead, you will be prompted to upgrade your account to access this feature.
