Viewership report overview
Viewership data is represented in a graph plot with a data table below it. You can access the viewership report from the OTT Admin by clicking the Analytics menu, then selecting Viewership.
As an example, a default Viewership report below shows the total views for all videos on a daily basis from the last 30 days.
The viewership report can also be exported as a CSV file by clicking the download icon in the upper right corner of the graph.
Set viewership report duration and time interval
In the upper left corner, you can set your reports time duration to one of the following:
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Last 365
- Custom date range
⚠️Note: When using the Custom date range option, the selection has to be within a 365-day range.
Next to the duration dropdown, you can choose to plot the data on a monthly, weekly, daily, or hourly time interval. Take note of the following:
- Hourly is only available when “Last 7 days” is selected as the duration. The date and time interval data are shown in UTC.
- The weekly time interval begins on Monday at 00:00:00 UTC and ends Sunday at 23:59:59 UTC per week.
Historical data on the Viewership report is accessible from January 1, 2018, onwards for the daily, weekly, and monthly time intervals. The hourly time interval data is available starting from January 1, 2020.
Data is current to the previous hour (e.g. if the current time is 11:20 UTC, available data is up to 11:00 UTC).
Metrics provided in the Viewership report
The Viewership report measures the following:
Views |
Gives the count of the number of times your video started playing i.e, the number of instances a person has hit the play button to start a video or the video gets auto-played. Does not include the pause/play interactions. |
Total time watched |
The total duration for which the video has been viewed. Data is displayed in the HH:MM: SS format. |
Finishes |
The number of unique times when the video is played to at least 90% of its duration. Not counted for live videos. |
Unique viewers |
The number of users who have watched a video for any duration within a specified time. |
Filtering and segmenting the Viewership report
By default, the report will measure All videos on your site within the given time period. Use the next dropdown menu to filter between VOD videos, which would include only videos you uploaded, or Live videos, which include only data for videos that were streamed live.
By default, the data displayed will be for all selected videos. You can also break out the data into the following segments
- Platform: See which platforms are the most popular viewing destinations; this is most useful if you have branded apps for your site.
- Country: See which countries your content is most popular in.
- Video: See which of your videos are most popular overall.
Note: The graph and data table can display up to 10 segments at a time.
- For metrics that have a "Total" column in the data table, we will by default display the 10 segments with the highest Total value in descending order.
- For metrics without a total column (e.g. Unique viewers), we will by default show the highest value based on the most recent date.
You can customize which segment appears in the graph and data table. For example, if you segment your report by Video, you can choose which specific video data to display. To do so:
-
Scroll down to the data table and click the Search icon in the segment column.
- Search or scroll for the desired segment item and click the corresponding checkbox. Note that if you already have 10 items selected, you will need to deselect one in order to select a new one.
- Click Add, and the data table and graph will update with the newly selected segment items.
💡Tip: You can also remove segment items from the data table by hovering your cursor over them and clicking the corresponding Remove button to the right.
