We’ve updated the viewing experience to put more focus on the video and make it easier for viewers to engage while watching.
To start, the new experience will appear to viewers of Unlisted and Private videos, starting March 26. Until then, viewers have the option to update to the new experience early on any Unlisted or Private video page. The experience will roll out to Public and Password-protected privacies in the coming months.
What’s changed
For now, you’ll notice a few changes:
-
More focus on the video
Videos take center stage in the new viewing experience, filling the top of the screen. -
Easier access to video details
Video details like title and description are easier to reference while watching. -
Improvements to engagement
It’s now easier to engage with videos while you watch, with comments, sharing, downloads, and likes all easy to access below the video player. -
New access point for transcripts
For videos with transcripts, you’ll now access them from within the video player.
Here is what the new video page looks like:
And here is the same page with the comments panel open:
We’ve made a lot of changes behind the scenes, too. They won’t impact you just yet, but they’ll allow us to bring more consistency and additional improvements to the viewing experience.
FAQs
When will this change happen?
The new experience launches on March 26, but you can update to the new experience now. When viewing an Unlisted or Private video, select Update now on the banner beneath the video player.
Can I switch back to the old experience?
Once you update to the new experience, you won’t be able to switch back. If you haven’t switched over by March 26, you’ll update to the new viewing experience automatically.
