What are the benefits of streaming with Vimeo Events?
When streaming on Vimeo OTT with Vimeo Events, you’ll benefit from:
- A simplified, yet powerful, web-based production suite in addition to RTMP streaming.
- Faster video availability after your streams conclude.
- Integrated live chat functionality.
How can I prepare for this transition?
To prepare for the transition to Vimeo Events, we strongly recommend completing the following steps as soon as possible. You will not be able to stream from the Live Events tab after February 1, 2025 and instead will use Vimeo Events.
Connect your Vimeo.com and Vimeo OTT accounts:
Connect your Vimeo.com and Vimeo OTT accounts to begin streaming with Vimeo Events. Learn more at 'How do I connect my Vimeo account to my OTT account?'.
⚠️Note: Only the Account Owner of the Vimeo OTT account can connect the accounts. If you don’t have a Vimeo.com account, please reach out to your Account Manager or the OTT Sales Team for assistance.
Familiarize yourself with Vimeo Events:
After connecting your accounts, familiarize yourself with the features and capabilities of Vimeo Events. Learn more at 'Broadcasting live events from Vimeo to Vimeo OTT'.
When is the deadline to make this change?
We strongly recommend connecting your accounts and familiarizing yourself with Vimeo Events before February 1, 2025.
What happens if I don’t connect my accounts by the deadline?
You can still connect your accounts after February 1st, 2025, however, you won’t be able to create new live events until you complete setting up this connection.
Can I still stream via RTMP?
Yes. With Vimeo Events you have all of the same capabilities you had previously, including the ability to stream from an external encoder connected to OTT via RTMP.
Where can I learn more about the Browser-Based Encoder?
You can learn more at ‘Overview: Create and go live to an event’.
What will happen to my past, recorded events?
Prior live streams on your Vimeo OTT account are transcoded into on-demand videos and will remain in your OTT library.
Why is this change happening?
“Live Events” on Vimeo OTT are powered by Livestream.com, a subsidiary of Vimeo.
To unify our products, Vimeo is sunsetting Livestream.com and has been building out powerful live-streaming capabilities inside of Vimeo.com. We’re bringing those new capabilities to Vimeo OTT by sunsetting “Live Events” and replacing them with Vimeo Events powered by Vimeo.com.
This change ensures that you continue to deliver high-quality content to your subscribers seamlessly.
