What is Vimeo AI?
Vimeo’s current AI capabilities include features that speed up workflows, extract insights, and get more out of their existing content through the auto-generation of titles, tags, and auto-chapters, recap content through text summaries; and turn videos into a two-way dialogue by enabling editors to ask questions directly to the video.
We strive to leverage our AI capabilities as a complementary asset to help enhance, assist, and complement workflows to make it easier to accomplish your day-to-day tasks. Our video AI suggestions and outputs can be further edited through our video editing tool. Vimeo AI runs on Vimeo’s trusted infrastructure, and upholds our security practices and compliance standards that our customers expect.
When using Vimeo AI, who owns the inputs and outputs?
As between you and Vimeo, you retain all rights to the inputs you provide to our services and you own any output you rightfully receive from our services to the extent permitted by law.
Will my Enterprise videos be used to train any models?
Vimeo does not use, and does not permit third parties to use, videos uploaded to Enterprise accounts to train or improve the underlying generative AI or large language models.
How will Vimeo use the outputs generated by Vimeo AI?
We may use aggregated outputs, user interactions, and customer feedback to improve or develop our services. Outputs generated by Enterprise users will not be aggregated and used to improve our services. For more information, please see our AI Addendum.
How is access to Vimeo AI administered and controlled?
Vimeo AI capabilities are enabled by default across the platform, but can be toggled off at any time by an account owner or administrator in your account settings. Learn more at How can I adjust my Vimeo AI settings?
In addition, today our auto-transcription feature is not configurable but this will be soon be enabled across all accounts.
Is my content shared with third parties?
Some of our AI features utilize software from third-party service providers. Vimeo only partners with third parties whose security policies and privacy commitments align with our own.
Below is an overview of the third-party service providers we work with today for specific AI capabilities, and how data may be shared with them. Our primary third-party service provider is Microsoft Corporation, utilizing the Azure infrastructure with its wide array of security tools and capabilities. In the future, we may add additional third-party providers to generate more extensive AI capabilities. We will update this section of the help center article as additional partners are added.

How do Vimeo’s third-party service providers use my data?
Our third-party service providers are only permitted to store and process data to provide the service to us and to monitor for uses that violate the applicable product terms. The Azure OpenAI Service is fully controlled by Microsoft; Microsoft hosts the OpenAI models in Microsoft’s Azure environment and the Service does NOT interact with any services operated by OpenAI (e.g. ChatGPT, or the OpenAI API).
Your inputs and outputs:
- are NOT available to other customers.
- are NOT available to OpenAI.
- are NOT used to improve OpenAI models.
- are NOT used to improve any Microsoft or 3rd party products or services.
- are NOT used for automatically improving Azure OpenAI models.
How does Vimeo address inclusivity and fairness in AI?
We’re committed to making sure our AI features are implemented responsibly. We only work with vendors who have developed controls designed to monitor and eliminate biases in their models. In addition, our automatic transcript generation feature promotes inclusivity and accessibility by empowering individuals with hearing, visual, and other impairments to access videos. We are open to any feedback or concerns, and are actively monitoring any issues that may occur within third-party vendors that would impact our decision to partner with them.
How does Vimeo communicate its use of AI in a transparent and clear way?
Most of our AI capabilities can all be accessed through an AI-dedicated icon which signifies where AI can be used throughout the Vimeo platform. For example, on the video editor page, this can be found on the bottom right of the screen. Since videos in our library get automatically transcribed, there is no visual aid for this capability.
