What is Vimeo AI?
Vimeo’s AI capabilities include features that speed up workflows, extract insights, and get more out of existing content by auto-generating titles, tags, and chapters. They also recap content through text summaries and turn videos into a two-way dialogue, enabling viewers to ask questions directly about the video. Vimeo's AI tools also enable users to translate their videos.
We strive to leverage our AI capabilities as a complementary asset to enhance, assist, and complement workflows, making it easier to accomplish your day-to-day tasks. Our video AI suggestions and outputs can be further edited through our video editing tool. Vimeo AI runs on Vimeo’s trusted infrastructure and upholds the security practices and compliance standards that our customers expect.
When using Vimeo AI, who owns the inputs and outputs?
Between you and Vimeo, you retain all rights to the inputs you provide to our services, and you own any output you rightfully receive from our services to the extent permitted by law.
Will my videos be used to train generative AI models?
Vimeo does not use and does not permit third parties to use your videos to train or improve the underlying generative AI or large language models. Read more about our position on AI.
How will Vimeo use the outputs generated by Vimeo AI?
We use outputs solely to provide, support, and maintain our services. We may use user interactions and customer feedback to improve or develop our services. For more information, please see our AI Addendum.
How is access to Vimeo AI administered and controlled?
Vimeo AI capabilities are enabled by default across the platform but can be toggled off at any time by an account owner or administrator in your team settings. Learn more at 'How can I activate or deactivate Vimeo AI settings for my team?'
Is my content shared with third parties?
Some of our AI features utilize software from third-party service providers. Vimeo only partners with third parties whose security policies and privacy commitments align with ours.
Below is an overview of the third-party service providers we work with today for specific AI capabilities and how data may be shared with them. Our primary third-party service provider is Microsoft Corporation, which utilizes the Azure infrastructure with its wide array of security tools and capabilities. To learn more about how Microsoft secures the Azure infrastructure, visit Microsoft: Azure infrastructure security.
We may add additional third-party providers to generate more extensive AI capabilities in the future. As additional partners are added, we will update this section of the help center article.

How do Vimeo’s third-party service providers use my data?
Our third-party service providers are only permitted to store and process data to provide the service to us and to monitor for uses that violate the applicable product terms. Microsoft fully controls the Azure OpenAI Service; Microsoft hosts the OpenAI models in Microsoft’s Azure environment, and the Service does NOT interact with any services operated by OpenAI (e.g., ChatGPT or the OpenAI API).
Your inputs and outputs:
- are NOT available to other customers.
- are NOT available to OpenAI.
- are NOT used to improve OpenAI models.
- are NOT used to improve any Microsoft or 3rd party products or services.
- are NOT used to automatically improve Azure OpenAI models.
How does Vimeo address inclusivity and fairness in AI?
We’re committed to making sure our AI features are implemented responsibly. We only work with vendors who have developed controls designed to monitor and eliminate biases in their models. In addition, our automatic transcript generation feature promotes inclusivity and accessibility by empowering individuals with hearing, visual, and other impairments to access videos.
If you experience a critical error or issue that does not align with our commitment and significantly impacts your experience with our AI features, please contact our support team.
How does Vimeo communicate its use of AI transparently and clearly?
Vimeo provides tools for creators to transparently label videos containing realistic AI-generated content with clear disclosures visible on the video page and player. This functionality and automatic labeling for Vimeo's AI tools help inform viewers about the presence of synthetic media hosted on Vimeo.
