This feature requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added.
When you stream an event on Vimeo, you can embed the live video player and viewer engagement tools onto your website, allowing your audience to watch and participate in your event directly on your site rather than only on Vimeo.com. This article explains how to customize and generate the embed code for your live event.
In this article:
What to know before embedding a live event
Before you embed your event, take note of the following:
- Website Widgets: Some website hosting services (e.g., WordPress) include video widgets that allow you to paste a URL to automatically embed content.
- Recurring Events: While widgets often work well for single videos, they generally do not work well for recurring events. If you need to embed a recurring live event, we recommend using the hosting service’s HTML block and pasting the iframe embed code described in the steps below.
How to embed a live event
You can generate specific embed codes for your player, engagement tools, or both. To do so:
- Create a live event or select one from your library.
- On the in-browser production tool, select Embed in the top right corner to customize your settings.
- Choose the content you would like to embed:
- Player and engagement tools: Embeds the video player alongside chat, polls, and Q&A.
- Player only: Embeds only the video player.
- Engagement tools only: Embeds only the engagement tools.
- Select your dimensions:
- Responsive: The player will automatically adjust based on the container size (Default).
- Fixed: Toggle on Set custom dimensions to enter the exact pixel size for the player.
- Under Where can this event be embedded?, choose where the event is allowed to appear and add custom domains if necessary.
- Select Copy embed code to copy the iframe code to your clipboard.
- Paste the code into your website’s HTML editor.
- Once embedded, the event will appear on your site. When you start your stream, the player will automatically load. When you stop your stream, the player will indicate that the event will be saved to your Library.
