Navigating the Record Desktop app
After installing the Record Desktop app, the navigation menu appears in the top right of your screen when you select the Vimeo icon from your menu or taskbar.
Select it again to hide the menu.
In the navigation menu, you can:
- Select which folder your recording will save to.
- Set additional settings such as keyboard shortcuts and whether your record controls should always appear.
- Select whether your Screen, Camera, or Both are being recorded.
- If your screen is being recorded, select whether your entire screen or a specific window is being recorded.
- Select which camera and microphone should be used and their settings.
- Select whether or not system audio should be included in your recording.
An additional sub-menu will appear on the bottom left of your screen.
The sub-menu contains:
- Controls to start recording/stop the recording, pause the recording, restart the recording, or delete the recording.
- If you are recording your camera, a preview of your camera view and the option to flip your camera horizontally.
How to record a video with the Record desktop app
Once you've chosen your recording settings, click the Start recording button in the main menu or the red record button on your screen's left panel.
When you're finished recording, press the Stop Recording button (a red square) on the left panel. You can restart or cancel/delete your recording. After you complete your recording, it will be stored in your selected folder within your Library. Additionally, customizable desktop shortcuts are available to help you navigate while recording, eliminating the need to keep the menu open on your screen.
How to edit your Record video
After your recording uploads to Vimeo, you can trim the video, edit it using the video editor, or turn it into an embeddable GIF. If your recording is longer than 120 minutes (or 30 minutes for Free/Basic users), you will need to trim it first. In the mobile app, the maximum recording length is 10 minutes.
To edit your recording:
- From your Library, select the thumbnail of your recording.
- From the video’s settings page, on the left-side toolbar, select the Edit button represented by the icon displaying a pair of scissors.
