Some features of the Record Studio require a paid Vimeo plan - Standard and above or Pro and above.
The Record Studio helps you to record a video using your device’s camera, your screen, or both. In the Record Studio, you can also write your own script, or generate a script using AI, and use the script on a teleprompter.

Accessing the Record Studio
- From the homepage select the Record quickstart icon.

This will take you to the record studio where you can begin recording your video.
💡Tip: Enterprise users can find the Record Studio by selecting the New dropdown button at the top-right of their Vimeo homepage and selecting Record screen.
Navigating the Record Studio
- On the top bar of the Record Studio, you can select which team and folder to save your Recording to. You can also view/change the privacy setting for your video, or install the Record Studio Chrome extension or desktop app.
- On the left side of the Record Studio, you can write or generate your script in the Script tab, or set the privacy options for your recording in the Privacy tab.
- On the right side of the Record Studio, you can find the controls to select which camera and microphone you’d like to choose for your recording. You can also select which screen you’d like to share and view a preview of your recording.
Using the teleprompter
You can write a script in the Record Studio to be used as a teleprompter.
- Select the Script panel on the left of the Record Studio.
- In the text box, write your script. You can also generate a script by using AI.
- At the bottom of the text box, select Open Teleprompter
- A new repositionable window will appear in the Record Studio. The text will begin to scroll as you begin recording your video.
The teleprompter box also has controls to increase/decrease the font size of your teleprompter and to change the speed of the text scroll.
💡Tip: The teleprompter window is both resizable and repositionable for you to customize the best fit. Select and drag the teleprompter window to move it to a new position on the screen. Select and drag the corner of the teleprompter window to resize it.
Generate a script using AI - (This feature requires a paid Vimeo plan - Pro and above or Standard and above)
If you need a script for your video and would like to use AI to generate one, select the Ask AI button in the script panel.
This will open the AI script generator. Write a brief description, or prompt, of what you need your script to include, and choose your preferred video duration and tone.
If you need some help writing a prompt, select from the Prompt examples dropdown menu to see some examples, which you can customize by editing the text. When you’re ready, select Ask AI and the script generator will use AI to write a script for you to use.
Recording a video using the Record Studio
When you’re ready to record your video, select Start Recording. Use the toolbar under the recording preview to select your camera, audio input device, and/or which aspect of your screen you’d like to share.
- Start Camera: Select the camera icon to begin recording with your device’s camera.
- To make changes to camera settings, you can select camera settings under the camera icon.

You can choose Blur my background to ensure that only your face is visible and anything that is in your background is blurred out.
Note: Record Studio is the only Record app with the Blur my background feature. It is not available on the Record Web Extension or the Record Desktop App.
- Mute/Unmute Microphone: Select the microphone icon to mute or unmute your microphone.
- Share screen: Select the share screen button to share your devices screen in the recording.
- You can select whether you’d like to share your entire screen, share a specific window, or share a specific tab in your browser.
- ⚠️Note: You cannot share your screen while using the teleprompter as the teleprompter will appear in your final video.
- If you choose to share your browser window or tab in your browser that contains the Record Studio, while you’re recording, the record preview will be blurred to prevent infinite mirroring. It will show clearly in your final recording.
- You can select whether you’d like to share your entire screen, share a specific window, or share a specific tab in your browser.
When you are finished recording, select the Stop Recording button - your recording will be added to your library or specified folder.
Using Picture-in-Picture - (This feature requires Google Chrome)
You can use the Picture in Picture feature in the Record Studio to open a resizable, repositionable window with tools from Record. This window will stay at the top of your screen, allowing you to navigate to other programs and control your recording without looking at the Record Studio screen.
To use picture in picture:
- Select Pop Out Preview.
- A resizable, repositionable window will appear showing a preview of your display for your recording.
- Select Start Recording to begin recording. A countdown will begin before your recording will begin.
- A toolbar will appear at the bottom of the window that lets you:
- Restart the recording
- Delete the recording
- Pause the recording
- Stop the recording
- View the timestamp of the recording
- When you are done recording, select the button displaying the timestamp of your recording.
💡Tip: If you are unable to see a preview of your recording in the Picture in Picture box, then the size of the box is too small. Resizing the box to make it larger will expand the preview.
