Above the record preview in the Record Studio is the inspector toolbar. Here you can customize the appearance of your recording, such as the layout of the elements on the canvas or canvas color.

Customizing the layout of your recording
You can customize the layout of your recording from pre-designed layouts.
To customize the layout for your recording in the Record Studio:
- Select the canvas.
- From the inspector toolbar above the canvas, select the Layout button.
- Scroll through the selections of layouts. They are categorized by Camera Only, Screen Only, and Camera + Screen
- Select which layout you’d like to use and it will be applied to your recording.
- You can also choose to flip or mirror the orientation of the elements by selecting the flip buttons at the top of the layout window.
You can also select and drag elements of the recording to reposition them on the screen.
Changing your recording's aspect ratio
You can change the aspect ratio of your recording in the Record Studio by selecting the Ratio button in the inspector toolbar above the canvas.
You can change the aspect ratio to:
- Landscape (16:9)
- Square (1:1)
- Portrait (9:16)
Select the ratio that you would like to change your recording to - the changes will apply automatically. You can further customize the layout of your recording based on the ratio selected.
Changing your camera’s background effect
You can change your camera’s background and add effects.
To change your camera’s background:
- Select your camera’s view from the record preview window.
- Select the Effects button from the inspector toolbar.
- The effects window will pop up. Here you can choose to mirror your camera, blur the background, make the background transparent, or upload your own image to use as a background.
For best results when uploading a background image:
- Use a high-quality image file up to 2560px x 1440px. A smaller image may appear lower quality based on your chosen layout.
- Use a common image format such as JPG, GIF, JPEG, and PNG.
- While GIF files are supported, animated GIFs are not supported at this time.
Change your camera's view shape
You can change the shape of your camera’s view in your recording.
To change the shape of your camera:
Select your camera preview on your canvas.
- Select the Shape button on the inspector toolbar above the canvas.
- Select the shape that you would like to change your camera’s view to from the toolbar to preview them
- When you’ve selected the shape you would like to change your camera’s view to, select the blue checkmark to apply it to your canvas.
Crop your shared screen or camera view
You crop your shared screen or camera view on your canvas in two ways: manually or by crop ratio.
To manually crop:
- Select your camera view or shared screen from your canvas.
- Select the Crop button from the inspector toolbar above the canvas.
- A crop bounding box will appear around your selected element. Select and drag the corners to crop your screen or camera view.
- Select the blue checkmark in the inspector toolbar to apply the crop.
To crop using the crop ratio:
- Select your camera view or shared screen from your canvas.
- Select the Crop button from the inspector toolbar above the canvas.
- Select the Crop Ratio dropdown menu.
- Select which crop ratio you would like to use - 16:9 (landscape), 1:1 (square), or 9:16 (portrait).
- Select the blue checkmark to apply the crop ratio to the canvas.
Change your recording canvas’ color
If your layout does not fill the entire record window, you can customize the canvas color for the remaining space.
To customize the canvas color:
- Select the canvas of the record preview window.
- Select the Canvas Color button on the top toolbar.
- Select the color that you would like to use for the remaining space of your canvas. You can select a solid color, a gradient, or the specific HEX color code.
- A preview will appear. When you are happy with the color of your canvas, click outside of the canvas color box to apply it.
