The Record Studio allows you to record a video using your device’s camera, your screen, or both. In Record Studio, you can also generate a script using AI, write your own script, and use the script on a teleprompter.
Finally, if your video contains spoken English, you can use the text-based video editing feature to edit your video based on its transcript, remove gaps, or remove filler words such as ‘um’s and uh’s’. Learn more at ‘How do I use the text-based video editor?’.

How do I access the Record Studio?
- From the homepage select the Record quickstart icon.
- This will take you to the record studio where you can begin recording your video.
⚠️Note: Enterprise users can find the Record Studio by selecting the New dropdown button at the top-right of their Vimeo homepage and selecting Record screen.
Exploring the record studio
The record studio has different elements to help you make your recording.

Save Location: Select the dropdown menu at the top of the screen to select a location to save your recording. Select the folder that you would like to save your recording to.

Script: Select the script button to expand the script panel. You can manually type in a script or talking points for your recording if you already have them.

Generate a Script (requires a paid Vimeo plan- Pro and above or Standard and above.): If you need a script for your video and would like to use AI to generate one, select the Generate button in the script panel.
This will open the AI script generator. Write a brief description, or prompt, of what you need your script to include, and choose your preferred video duration and tone. If you need some help writing a prompt, select from the Prompt examples dropdown menu to see some examples, which you can customize by editing the text. When you’re ready, click Generate script and the script generator will use AI to write a script for you to use. Learn more below at 'How do I generate a script using AI?.' - Teleprompter (requires a paid Vimeo plan): After creating your script or talking points, select Open teleprompter to read your text at your preferred font size and scrolling pace while recording your video. How do I generate a script using AI? (This feature requires a paid Vimeo plan - Pro and above or Standard and above)
- After expanding the Script panel by selecting the Script button on the left side of the screen, select Generate.
- In the text box, describe what you want your video to be about or talking points that you would like to mention in your video.
💡Tip: Select the Prompt examples dropdown menu to view different examples of what kind of scripts the tool can write for you. - Select the Duration that you would like your video to be to help determine the length of the script. You can select 1, 5, or 10 minutes.
- Select the tone that you want your script to be written in. You can select from confident, funny, direct, inspiring, casual, or formal.
- After describing what your script should include, the duration of your video that your script will help you create, and the tone of your script, select Generate Script to create a new script using AI.
- Your generated script will appear in the text box in the Script panel. You can manually make changes to the script as needed. If you would like to generate a new script or change the duration or tone, select Generate once more.
- If you would like to use a teleprompter to read your script while recording a video, select the Open teleprompter button.
How do I use the teleprompter in the Record Studio?(This feature requires a paid Vimeo plan- Pro and above or Standard and above)
After you’ve written or generated your script, select the Open teleprompter button under the script text box. This will display your script in a window above the record window.
💡Tip: The teleprompter window is both resizable and repositionable for you to customize the best fit. Select and drag the teleprompter window to move it to a new position on the screen. Select and drag the corner of the teleprompter window to resize it.
You can customize the following features of the teleprompter:

Scroll Speed: Change the speed of the scrolling text of the teleprompter to help you follow along. You can change the speed text to 1x, 1.5x, or 2x. Select the speed to change it.

Decrease Font Size: Decrease the size of the font in your teleprompter window to make it easier to read.

Increase Font Size: Increase the size of the font in your teleprompter window to make it easier to read.
After customizing the teleprompter, you can begin recording your video.
How do I record a video in the Record Studio?
When you’re ready to record your video, use the toolbar under the recording preview to select your camera, audio input device, and/or which aspect of your screen you’d like to share.

Start Camera: Select the camera icon to begin recording with your device’s camera.
- If you have multiple cameras connected to your device (ex: a built-in webcam and an external webcam), select the arrow next to the camera to open the camera settings and select which camera you’d like to use. You can also select whether you’d like to mirror your camera or blur your background in the camera settings.

Mute/Unmute Microphone: Select the microphone icon to mute or unmute your microphone.
- If you have multiple microphones connected to your device (ex: a built-in microphone and an external microphone), select the arrow next to the microphone to open the microphone settings and select which microphone you’d like to use.

Share screen: Select the share screen button to share your devices screen in the recording.
- You can select whether you’d like to share your entire screen, share a specific window, or share a specific tab in your browser.
- ⚠️Note: You cannot share your screen while using the teleprompter as the teleprompter will appear in your final video.
- If you choose to share your browser window or tab in your browser that contains the Record Studio, while you’re recording, the record preview will be blurred to prevent infinite mirroring. It will show clearly in your final recording.
- You can select whether you’d like to share your entire screen, share a specific window, or share a specific tab in your browser.
You can record using your camera and share your screen if you share your Entire Screen. A separate, repositionable window will appear showing your camera’s view.
Recording a video
Select Start Recording to begin recording your video and start your teleprompter (if applicable). A toolbar will appear below the preview window with the following tools:

Pause Recording: Pause or unpause your recording.

Start Over: Deletes the recording and starts a new one.

Delete: Deletes the entire recording.

Stop Recording: Stops the recording and saves it to your save location. This also displays the runtime of your recording
