Which videos are eligible for Auto CC?
Automatic captions are only generated for videos that are less than or equal to 8 hours. They also will only apply to videos uploaded after May 2022.
How does Auto CC work for live events?
Auto CC is available for live events, but there are different limitations in place:
- Premium and Advanced members get up to 2 hours of live auto CC for their events per year.
- Enterprise members get up to 30 hours of live auto CC for their events per year.
- See Automatic closed captioning for live events for how to enable and use Auto CC for events.
What languages are available for automatic closed captions?
Automatic closed captions are available in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. English is available for all users, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are for Pro/Standard membership and above only.
If your account is set to one of these preferred languages, your videos will be eligible for automatic captioning.
If you would like to offer additional languages to your audience, you’ll need to upload separate subtitle or caption files.
⚠️Note: Automatically generated captions are labeled as "Autogenerated” to clarify to viewers and distinguish between manually uploaded captions.
Why don't my older videos have Auto CC?
Vimeo offers automatic closed captioning to all paid members for videos uploaded after May 25, 2022. This means that all videos will be automatically transcribed by our system during the upload process. If your video was uploaded before May 25, 2022, re-uploading your video will generate automatic closed captions.
