How to use Vimeo AI to ask questions about videos

Activating this feature is available to account Owners on select Vimeo Enterprise plans. Please contact your account manager to gain access.

This article discusses how to ask questions and find answers on AI-eligible videos

Viewers can determine which videos support questions and answers by checking if the Vimeo AI button is displayed under the video player. If a video does not have the Vimeo AI button under the player or in the player's top-right corner, you cannot ask questions about the video.

How can I activate Ask AI on videos I upload?

Ask AI can be activated on AI-eligible videos.

All viewers of the video can ask questions that are not limited to what appears in the transcript of your video. For example, they are about scenes, objects, or slides of a presentation that appear in the video. 

How do I use Ask AI on a video on Vimeo.com?

All viewers can use Ask AI on videos where the feature is activated. You can use Ask AI by selecting the Vimeo AI button under the video player. To do so: 

  1.  Select the Vimeo AI button under the video player and title of eligible videos to open the Vimeo AI module.

  2. In the questions and answers box, select from a pre-generated question or type your own in the textbox. You may have to wait a few moments for Ask AI to activate.
    The Ask AI interface prompts users to 'Choose a question from the list or ask your own.' Below this, a set of six predefined question buttons are outlined in red, including 'What is the video about?' and 'What languages are supported for video translation?'. An 'English' language selector is visible near the top of the question list, and an 'Ask about this video' input field is at the bottom.
  3. To view or ask questions in another language, select the dropdown and choose a supported language or type the question in your preferred language. Ask AI will respond in the language asked.

  4. Vimeo AI will generate the answer to your question and provide quick links to points in the video where the answer is given. You can select the play button next to each point to jump to that point in the video.

How to use Ask AI on an embedded video

If a video uploaded to Vimeo is embedded on another site and the video has Ask AI activated, viewers can ask questions about the video. To do so:

  1. Hover over the video player and select the Ask Vimeo AI button.
  2. Select or type the question in the expanded panel.
  3. After the answer to your question is generated, select the play button under the answer to play the moment in the video that discusses the answer.
