Vimeo supports two-factor authentication (2FA) in order to provide an additional layer of security to your account. We recommend enabling 2FA by either setting up an authenticator app or using your email to retrieve a security code when you log in. Although it’s best to keep 2FA enabled, this article also includes steps for deactivating it within your security settings.
In this article:
How to enable or disable two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA - Email
- Go to Security Settings.
- Select 2FA and choose Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) - Email.
- You will be prompted to verify your email address if you haven’t already.
- Save settings to enable two-factor authentication for your next login.
2FA - Authenticator app
- Go to Security Settings.
- Select 2FA and choose Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) - Authenticator.
- Once you choose this option, a modal will pop up with these setup instructions:
- Download an authenticator app (e.g. Google authenticator, Authy, or other).
- Open your chosen authenticator app and scan the QR code or manually enter the security code shown.
- Verify your app with the provided 6-digit security code.
- Save settings to enable two-factor authentication for your next login.
Do not use 2FA
- Go to Security Settings.
- Select 2FA and select Do not use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
- Save settings to opt-out of 2FA. You still may choose to enable 2FA in the future to add an extra layer of security to your account.
Two-factor authentication login flow
Once 2FA has been enabled, logging in will take an extra step. Below is what you can expect to see when logging in with 2FA by email or an authenticator app.
2FA - Email
- Log in to Vimeo with your email and password as usual.
- You will be prompted to enter the security code that was sent to your email.
- If you need a new code, you may request one to be resent.
- If there have been too many login attempts, you can try again later.
2FA - Authenticator
- Log in to Vimeo with your email and password as usual.
- You will be prompted to enter the security code from your authenticator app.
- Open your app (i.e. Google authenticator, Authy, or other) to retrieve the code.
- If needed, you may request a new code to be emailed instead.
- If there have been too many login attempts, you can try again later.
