Network and browser requirements for watching live events

This article discusses the minimum network and browser requirements for viewing live events on Vimeo, including recommended download speeds, compatible browsers, and firewall settings.

Download speeds

The quality of your live playback experience relies mainly on your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or mobile provider's download speed. Please note that various factors can affect your overall internet speed. 

The minimum speeds required for each playback quality are detailed in the table below: 

Desktop OS and browsers

We recommend using the following browsers and versions on Windows 7 or later, or macOS Sierra (10.12.6) or later: 

• Chrome 30+ (has automatic updates) 
• Firefox 27+ (has automatic updates)* 
• Microsoft Edge
• Safari 9+

*H.264 video (required for viewing Vimeo videos) is only supported in Firefox for Windows 7 and later. Firefox versions on Windows XP are no longer supported for playback.

Supported mobile devices

• Mobile viewers require a device running at least Android version 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher, or iOS version 12.4 or higher, to watch live events.
• While live events on Vimeo may be viewable on Blackberry and Windows phones that support HTML5, we do not test our player in these environments and therefore cannot guarantee support.
• The Samsung Internet browser (all versions) is not supported for live events on Vimeo. We recommend using a compatible browser instead.

Whitelisted domains and firewall ports

Viewers should ensure the following ports are open on their network for playback:

• TCP/UDP 80 (HTTP)
• TCP/UDP 443 (HTTPS)

Additionally, these domains should be whitelisted if you are on a network that may restrict access to websites or domains:

• *.vimeo.com
• *.vimeocdn.com
• *.magisto.com
• *.akamaized.net
• *.cloudfront.net
