There are two ways in which you can simulcast from Vimeo to YouTube. First, make sure your YouTube account is Verified so that you can go live with it. You also need to ensure you have login credentials or manager access to the YouTube account to which you are streaming.
See the Youtube hub page to learn more about this integration.
Direct integration
To connect your YouTube account to Vimeo, first create your live event. Then, go to the Destinations menu under Settings, and then select Connect next to YouTube.
You will be brought to the connected apps page in your Vimeo Account Settings. Select Connect next to YouTube to authenticate the YouTube app.
Log in to your YouTube account, select the profile to which you’d like to stream, and allow the requested permissions in order to connect YouTube to your Vimeo account. Once connected, you will be prompted to return to your event settings page on Vimeo.
Back in your Live Event Settings on Vimeo, you can adjust your event's privacy on YouTube.
Next, ensure the slider switch next to YouTube is toggled on (blue).
When you’re ready, go live on Vimeo. Once live, your stream will automatically simulcast to YouTube. Note that you can always navigate to your YouTube Studio to control settings on YouTube such as the title's appearance, descriptions, and privacy settings.
Note: Avoid using angle brackets (< >) in your event's description. They may cause the video to not stream to YouTube.
RTMP
To stream to YouTube via RTMP, you will need to navigate the YouTube Studio, copy the streaming credentials, and then paste them into your Vimeo event's live settings. Here's how:
- After logging into your YouTube account, click the Create button at the top and select Go live.
- You will then see the following screen:
- Enter your event's Title and select your desired Privacy setting for YouTube:
-
- Public: Anyone can see and discover your stream
- Private: Only you can see your stream (this is ideal for testing)
- Unlisted: Anyone with the link can see your stream but it does not appear in the search
Note that this does not impact the privacy of your stream on Vimeo.
Scheduling
From here you can also choose to schedule your stream for later. If you miss your scheduled start time, nothing will happen; you can always go into your Live Control room and change the date, time, and whatever other details you'd like. Your event link and RTMP credentials will remain the same until you go live to that event.
Once you have configured those details as desired, click Create Stream.
Live Control Room
This is the portal where your stream will come in after you go live from your encoder and where you will push the stream live to YouTube.
If you select the EDIT button at the top, you can edit your event details like the title and description, date and time, etc. just as you did initially.
At the top right of your screen is the share arrow, which you can click to retrieve your embed code and event link for YouTube.
Stream Settings
In the bottom left corner are your RTMP URL ("Stream URL") and Stream key. The stream key will be hidden at first; click the eye icon to reveal the stream key but don't share it anywhere. Each of these will need to be copied over into your Vimeo event.
Create your event on Vimeo; in the event's live settings, click the Destinations tab, then next to RTMP, select Add.
A modal will pop up, which is where you will paste the RTMP URL and Stream key from YouTube. You will also need to add a title (e.g. "YouTube"), which is meant to give a name to this RTMP destination.
Go live from your encoder to Vimeo. You will see a preview pop-up on the control room page. Once you see that (it takes about 20 seconds), be sure to select Go live in the top right corner of the YouTube Control Room and you will be live on YouTube.
