Admin - This is your Vimeo OTT backend where you edit your videos, sites, products, and subscriptions. It's the main hub of activity and all of your seller promotional tools.
API - Application Programming Interface. A set of functions, routines, and tools that allow anyone to incorporate aspects of a platform into their own software. Vimeo's API will enable you to leverage our tools for serving video online to your audience.
Aspect ratio - Describing the width of a video compared to its height, typically expressed in a ratio. For example, the HD video standard is defined as 16:9. Other common ratios are listed here.
AVOD (Available for Vimeo OTT Enterprise accounts only) - Advertising-based video on demand. Vimeo OTT supports basic advertising integration so that you’re able to integrate pre-, post-, or mid-roll ads in your videos.
Captions - Provide a written description of what is occurring in your video for viewers who may be unable to hear or process the sound. Similar to subtitles, these can be added to your video.
Compression - Prepare your videos in the correct format prior to uploading them to Vimeo OTT. Video compression settings recommended for Vimeo can be found here.
Conversion rates - The percentage of users that take a desired action. The sales conversion on a seller’s Dashboard refers to the percentage of site visitors who purchase content.
Dashboard - The Dashboard is the first thing you will see upon logging in to your Vimeo OTT account. It is the main hub of activity where you can view metrics including daily sales and gross revenue.
Downloading - Transferring data from the internet to a device (ex: laptop, mobile phone). When a customer purchases a Product, they have the option to download the video to view offline. Sellers have the option to disable downloads within a Product.
DRM - Digital Rights Management. A term describing a series of technologies that are applied to a digital file that prevent access to that file across devices. Vimeo OTT DRM utilizes multiple technologies including Apple Fairplay, Google Widevine, and Microsoft PlayReady.
EST - Electronic Sell Through. For a one-time fee, your customers will have unlimited access to the TVOD products that you set available to download.
FVOD - Free Video on Demand. Allow your audience to stream or download your content for free without a paywall.
Payout - A sum of your Vimeo OTT earnings paid to you, after we deduct applicable fees. Payout occurs on a monthly basis. Statements will provide you with additional information about your monthly payout.
Products - Products describe video content and any additional digital media that you are selling to your customers through Vimeo OTT. This includes subscriptions (SVOD) and content for transactional purchase/rental (TVOD).
Screeners - Streaming-only copies of your video that you can send to the press, partners, and friends. They are time-sensitive and you control how long someone has access to the video. You get 100 free Screeners to send out each month at no extra cost. After that, they cost you $1 for each additional Screener sent.
Statements - Statements are a report of your monthly sales. All gross sales, fee schedules, and geographic breakdowns are included in your statements. Reports will be available to view on the web, or downloadable as PDF or CSV reports.
Streaming - Viewing a video over the internet without downloading. SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) networks and rental videos are only available via streaming.
Subscriptions/SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) - Customers are charged a monthly or annual fee for unlimited streaming of your videos. Video content is not downloadable.
Subtitles - Captions that translate a video’s audio narrative into another language in written form. Vimeo OTT allows you to upload .SRT and .VTT files with your videos
Transactions - A sale, subscription, redemption, or fulfilment of your content on Vimeo OTT. Information about transactions can be found in your Transactions CSV and your monthly Payout statements.
Transcoding - The process of converting video files into their Internet-ready versions. We create multiple versions of your video based on the conditions of the source file so that it works well across all devices and connection speeds.
TVOD - Transactional Video On Demand. This refers to videos available for purchase or rental. TVOD videos have a different price structure than subscription videos.
Uploading - The transfer of files from your computer to your Vimeo OTT site. Video content, subtitles, and bonus materials are all examples of content that would be uploaded to a site.
VAT - Value Added Tax. Businesses selling digital goods must pay VAT according to a customer's location. Vimeo currently collects and remits tax/VAT/GST/JCT/DST based on location.
VHX - Our old name. We became Vimeo OTT in 2016. We are a platform for selling video online directly to your audience, whether for purchase or rental, live pay-per-view events, or subscriptions.
