Translate your video into another language
Each account is provided with a number of translation minutes that can be used to videos into another language. Each language selected will count towards that number of minutes. If you need to purchase additional minutes, please reach out to your account manager for further information.
For example, if you have a 6-minute video and you select to translate your video into Spanish and Japanese, 12 translation minutes will be used.
To translate your video into another language:
- From your video’s settings page, select the Vimeo AI sparkles button in the lower-right corner.
- Select Translate Video.
- From the Select Languages dropdown menu, select the checkboxes next to the language(s) that you would like to translate your video into.
- Select Continue.
- Select the number of speakers in the video. You can also select Auto-select for AI to automatically detect the number of speakers in the video.
- Select Continue.
- If you would like to generate a free preview of your translated video, select the checkbox next to Generate Free Preview. This preview will show you 30-seconds of your video and will not cost you any translation minutes. It will take some time for each preview to generate.
- Below the preview, you can see the number of translation minutes that your video will cost as well as how many translation minutes remain. Select each language to hear a preview and view the translated subtitles.
- After your preview generates, you can rate the translation by hovering over each language and select the thumbs up or thumbs down button.
- To remove a translated language from your video, hover over the language track and select the garbage icon.
- If you are happy with your preview and are ready to translate your video, select Finish and Save.
- Your video will begin the translation process. The time it takes for your video to translate is roughly aligned with the length of your video. For example, if your video is 5 minutes long, it will take roughly 5 minutes for your video to generate a translation. The time may vary depending on the busy-ness of the service.
- ⚠️Note: While your video is processing, do not make changes using tools such as the Editor, Interactive Studio, or Text-Based video editor.
- The Captions panel on the left-side toolbar of the video settings page will automatically open so that you can view the status of the translation job. You can manually edit generated subtitles as needed. Learn more at How to edit a video’s transcript .
What if my translation attempt fails?
In the event that your translation attempt fails, you may see one of the following error messages:
- If your source video is not a supported language, you’ll receive an error that AI translation is not supported for this video’s language.
- If the translation fails, you’ll receive an error that Vimeo AI was unable to process this translation. You may decide to try this translation once more. Regenerating a failed translation request will not cost additional translation minutes.
If you try your translation once more and your translation fails, you will see a red exclamation mark next to the failed track. Select the garbage can icon to remove the track.
