About AI Credits
AI credits are used to pay for translations powered by AI. Credit prices are displayed on Vimeo's plan comparison page in the Vimeo AI section by hovering over the Info icon ⓘ next to 'Buy AI Credits'. Additionally, the price is displayed during the translation process under the number of credits needed to complete your translation.
The cost to use credits for translations is:
- 10 credits = 1 minute of translated subtitles
- 20 credits = 1 minute of translated audio and subtitles
The ability to use AI credits depends on your account and role type.
- Paid Plans (excluding Enterprise): Account Owners can purchase and use credits.
- Vimeo Enterprise: Team members with edit rights to your videos can use credits when translations are activated for your team. Learn more at 'How do I activate or deactivate Vimeo AI settings for my team?'
Calculating Costs for Translations
AI translation costs vary based on the video's length, the number of languages, and whether you translate only subtitles or both subtitles and audio.
- 10 credits = 1 minute of translated subtitles
- 20 credits = 1 minute of translated audio and subtitles.
Translation costs are calculated by multiplying the credits needed for each minute by the video's total duration in minutes and the number of languages into which the video is translated.
Example:
A 2-minute video's subtitles translated into three languages
10 credits per minute x 2 minutes x 3 languages
Total cost = 60 credits
OR
A 2-minute video's audio and subtitles translated into three languages
20 credits per minute x 2 minutes x 3 languages
Total cost = 120 credits
Some AI credits expire. AI credit expiration terms are dependent on your account type:
- Free/Basic/Trial: Users on these accounts cannot access AI credits.
- Paid Plans (Non-Enterprise): AI credits expire 30 days from the grant date and do not renew.
-
Vimeo Enterprise: AI credits do not expire. They renew annually; however, unused credits do not roll over.
- Enterprise customers who joined Vimeo after July 31, 2024, will receive AI credits instead of minutes. In addition, you will see 20x the number of minutes previously in your account.
To lower the cost of your translation, consider translating your video into fewer languages or opting for a shorter video. Please note that partial translations are not allowed; the entire video must be translated.
Purchasing Additional AI Credits
After your free credits are exhausted, you can buy extra AI credits to translate additional videos. The purchasing process varies based on your plan type.
- Paid plans (excluding Enterprise): You can only buy the amount of AI credits needed to translate a specific video while you are actively translating a video. You cannot pre-purchase AI credit bundles before translating a video.
- Enterprise accounts: Contact your Account Manager to purchase additional AI credits.
You can check the balance of your AI credits on the bottom left of your Homepage.
AI credits are non-refundable and non-transferable between Vimeo accounts. They cannot be exchanged for cash, refunded, or applied to pay for a Vimeo subscription.
