Starting on June 1st, 2026, your yearly live caption hours convert into AI credits. Your captioning experience doesn't change — you'll just use the same credits you already use for other AI features (like translations and dubbing) to power live auto-captions.

What's changing
After June 1, there's just one pool: AI credits. They cover live auto-captions and every other AI feature on Vimeo. For a full breakdown of how credits are consumed across features, see AI credits rates and guidelines.
What stays the same:
- Auto-captioning works the same way it does today in your live events.
- You don't need to enable or configure anything new.
- Your existing AI credit balance and entitlement stay intact — we're adding to it, not replacing it.
How your hours convert into credits
Every minute of live auto-captioning consumes 10 AI credits. Your yearly caption-hour entitlement converts at that same rate, on top of the AI credits you already get:
| Your current entitlement | What you'll get |
| 2 hours / year of live captions | +1,200 AI credits / year |
| 30 hours / year of live captions | +18,000 AI credits / year |
These credits renew yearly, just like your caption hours did. Because it's all one pool now, you can spend them on whatever AI feature you need — live captions, VOD translations, dubbing, and anything we ship next.
What happens if you run out of credits during a live event
Captions don't cut out mid-stream. Your event keeps running.
- Self-Serve accounts: Credits consumed beyond your entitlement are billed at the end of the day. For details, see About AI credits.
- Enterprise accounts: Captions keep running. If you regularly exceed your entitlement, your Account Manager will reach out to discuss an AI credits add-on.
When this happens
Starting on June 1st, 2026: Migration happens automatically. No action required on your end.
What you need to do
Nothing. The migration is automatic. If you want to get ahead of it, check your AI credits balance and usage and explore the other AI features your credits can now power.
A note for accounts with Unlimited Live Caption Hours add-on
If your account has the Unlimited Live Caption Hours add-on, nothing changes for you on June 1st. You'll keep using the live caption hours system as today. Your Account Manager will walk you through the transition to AI credits when the time comes.
Questions
Can I use these new credits for other AI features? Yes. Once migrated, all your AI credits — whether granted, purchased, or converted from caption hours — live in a single pool you can spend across any AI feature. See the AI Credits section of our Help Center for everything you can do with them.
Do my existing AI credits expire when the new ones are added? No. We're adding the converted credits to your existing entitlement. Your regular AI credits entitlement and any add-on credits you've purchased keep their existing expiration rules — see About AI credits for the full expiration policy.
