When you invite members to join you on Vimeo, you can assign roles to determine what each member can see and do. This article explains each role so you can choose the right ones for your members.

Roles on Vimeo

Roles define what members can (and can’t) do. Vimeo offers the following roles:

Viewer	Viewers can access content that has been shared with them and can be granted Can view or Can comment permission only. They cannot edit or make changes to videos they have access to.
Contributor	Contributors can access content that has been shared with them and can be granted Can view, Can comment, or Can edit permission. They can also upload, create, edit, and share their own videos and showcases.
Admin	Admins can access all content on the account, including videos created by other members, and have Can manage access by default. They can also use all features and tools, manage settings, brand kits, and add and remove members. They cannot handle billing or change the plan.
Owner	There is only one owner. This person has full control, including accessing all content with Can manage access, and managing billing, plans, brand kits, and all account settings, including connected social accounts and API integrations.

Contributor Plus

Contributor Plus members can do everything contributors can do, plus create and manage events, brand kits, and interactive videos.

Additional notes for Enterprise accounts:

For Enterprise plans that include multiple workspaces, there is also an organization owner and organization admins. You can learn more about user roles and permissions for organizations here.
If you have a large number of users that you’d like to grant the Viewer role, you can provide us with a CSV of their email addresses so we can add them for you. To do this, contact your account manager.
- You can also grant viewer access by specifying a domain for SSO. Viewers that you grant access to via SSO will not receive an invite email.

Additional roles on legacy plans

On Pro, Business, and Premium plans, there is one additional role:

Uploader

Uploaders can only upload videos. They can do this from their upload page. Any videos an uploader adds are private, but admins or the owner can change the privacy after upload.

Folder and video access

What a member can actually do with shared content depends on which permissions they are granted.

When videos or folders are shared, members can be granted Can view, Can comment, Can edit, or Can manage access.

Admins and the owner always have Can manage access to all content on the account, including content created by other members. All other roles need to be explicitly granted access to a folder or video.

Overview of folder sharing

When a folder is shared, the member it’s been shared with can access all the videos in the folder (and in any subfolders) with the permission they were granted at the folder level.

If you share a folder with someone and give them Can edit access, they can edit any videos inside the folder.

Contributors (and Enterprise members with the Contributor Plus role) can be granted Can manage permission on folders. This allows them to create videos within a folder, delete videos, and create new subfolders.

* When a Contributor Plus member creates a new live event, it will be in their My library folder rather than the Live events section. They can move it to another folder as needed.
