This article discusses the privacy settings for channels, groups, showcases, and portfolios on Vimeo, highlighting how these settings can override individual video privacy and the implications for sharing and visibility

Channels and Groups
Only Public videos or those marked password-protected can be added to a channel or group. Videos marked Unlisted or Hide from Vimeo will not be accessible or visible within a channel or group.
The privacy settings of channels and groups always take precedence over the privacy settings for your individual videos. For example, a password-protected video added to a public channel will be accessible to anyone who views that channel.
⚠️Note: You might not be able to add every video you want to your channel. That’s because Vimeo members can choose not to allow their videos to be added to groups, channels, and showcases. If you aren’t able to add a particular video to your channel, this may be a conscious decision by the person who uploaded it.
Showcases
If you add a nonpublic video to a showcase, that video's visibility will depend on the privacy settings of your showcase. Please see Privacy of videos in showcases for more information.
Portfolios
When creating a new portfolio, you can choose to password-protect it by clicking Password Protect this Portfolio on the Create a Portfolio page.
To password-protect an existing portfolio, go to your profile image > Watch > Collections > the gear icon on the Portfolio, and then select the Privacy tab from the Portfolio settings page.
When you add videos to a portfolio, the portfolio's privacy settings always override the individual video's privacy settings. Anyone with access to the portfolio will be able to watch all of the videos inside, regardless of the individual videos' privacy settings. This means that:
- If you add a nonpublic video to a public portfolio, it will be accessible to anyone with the link to the portfolio.
- If you add a non-public video to a password-protected portfolio, it will be accessible to anyone with the password to the portfolio.
Review pages
By default, you can share the link to your review page with Everyone, meaning any recipient can view and comment on the video review page. To change the default setting of the video review page:
- Navigate to the Review Page Privacy section of your account settings.
- Select either 'Everyone' or 'Team only' from the dropdown menu.

(optional) You can also change the review page privacy for all videos currently on your account to the new default setting by ticking the box next to Apply to all existing videos.
- Important: While you can always change your default setting and override it on individual video review pages, you cannot undo bulk-changing all existing videos to a single privacy setting. For example, if you want most videos to be set to 'Team only' but leave some videos set to 'Everyone', you would need to update the setting in the Share menu on those individual review pages to 'Everyone' after applying this bulk change.
- If you have been historically configuring this setting on an as-needed, per-video basis, you may prefer to keep this box unchecked.
- Click Save to apply the setting.
You can then override the default setting for any individual video as needed. To do so:
- Navigate to the review page (video settings page > options menu (•••) in the upper right corner > Review video).
- Select Share in the upper right corner of the review page.
- Under Get link, open the dropdown and choose between Team Only or Everyone.
- The setting will automatically save upon selection.
If you would like an extra layer of security on your video’s review page, change the video’s privacy settings to Password. Anyone who opens the video review page link would need to enter the video’s password to access the page.
Google indexing of collections
A video added to a public collection may be indexed by Google, but it can only be accessed through the collection. If the video is restricted for privacy with a password, it'll only be viewable with that password. Although it may be indexed and appear in search results, the video's privacy settings are not overridden. Protecting a video with a password is only available with paid memberships.
Workspaces
For Enterprise accounts with Workspaces: Privacy settings can be configured and managed at both the Workspace and Organization levels, with Organization settings taking precedence. For details, visit "How to edit my Organization’s settings" or "How to edit my Workspace's settings."
