There are two ways to simulcast your event from Vimeo to Facebook. With both methods, you will need to be able to log into the Facebook account that is either the owner or administrator of the desired profile or page.
⚠️Note: If you want to stream to a Facebook group, you will need to use the RTMP method.
Direct Integration
-
To connect your Facebook account to Vimeo, create your live event, then go to the Destinations menu under Settings.
- Click Connect next to Facebook and you will be brought to Facebook’s site to authenticate the Vimeo app.
- If you’d like, you can click the "Review the info you provide" link to see what information you’ll be passing along to Vimeo, and then hit Continue. If your Facebook account does not automatically appear, make sure to log in to the Facebook account in the same web browser, then go back to your live event settings and click Connect again.
- Next, you’ll need to choose the default privacy for the live events Vimeo posts to Facebook (Public, Friends, or Just Me). These privacy settings only affect your stream when it is sent to Facebook, and do not change the settings on Vimeo. After selecting the Facebook privacy settings, you'll be presented with the What you allow section, providing toggles to limit or grant permissions to post content in different places on the Facebook account, such as specific groups and pages.
- Clicking OK in the modal will take you back to the Destinations tab in your live event settings page on Vimeo.
- At this point, you can click the Add button to make Facebook a destination for your stream when it goes live.
- In the modal window that pops up, select the Facebook destination you wish to simulcast to and you can adjust Facebook’s privacy setting, and then click Save.
Now you are all set to simulcast your stream to Facebook. You can simulcast to your Facebook Profile or any page of which you are an Admin, up to five destinations at once.
When you’re ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo; it will automatically simulcast to Facebook. Remember that your encoder settings should include the RTMP URL and Stream Key from Vimeo, not Facebook.
Note: If there is any issue with your Facebook connection, to troubleshoot, you can disconnect and then reconnect it.
RTMP
Another way to simulcast from Vimeo to Facebook is to get the RTMP credentials from your desired Facebook destination and input them into your Vimeo event's Destinations setting.
-
Navigate to the desired streaming destination (e.g. your business's Facebook page). In the Create area, click Live.
- You will be taken to Facebook's live producer portal where you can select if you would like to Go live or Create live video event.
- The next page is the Stream setup menu where you can Select a video source, be sure to click Streaming software.
- You can now see the Streaming software setup and the Stream key you will need. Clicking Advanced settings will further provide additional important settings, including the RTMP URL you will need. (If you plan to stream multiple times to Facebook in the future and want to keep the Stream key from resetting, be sure to toggle the Persistent stream key).
- Before allowing a stream to be posted you are required to fill in a Title and Description of the event under Add post details on the right side of the Facebook producer.
- There are additional settings you can configure for your stream, your viewers, and your comment on Facebook. These settings do not apply to your stream on Vimeo or any other destination. For more details on these settings, see Facebook's documentation.
- On Vimeo, create your event and on the Settings page, select the Destinations menu. Next to RTMP, click Add.
- An RTMP streaming settings modal window will open on Vimeo. Copy and paste the RTMP URL and Stream key from Facebook into the corresponding fields on Vimeo.
- You also need to give this destination a Title (e.g. "Facebook page"); this serves as a descriptive label. Then click Save.
- Configure your event settings for Vimeo as you normally would.
- When you're ready, go live on Vimeo from your encoder.
- Once you are streaming from your encoder, you will start to receive live video and audio from the Facebook producer. Confirm that the video and audio are correct and in sync. You can then click Go Live in the left-hand corner of the Facebook producer. When doing so, a live video post is created, pushed to the desired audience, and followers will be notified that you are live.
- To end the stream, stop it on Facebook first by clicking the red End live video button in the lower-left corner of the Producer portal. This will end the stream on Facebook and post it as a video. You can then end the stream on Vimeo.
