You can set up your Vimeo OTT as your primary domain (www.yoursite.com) or as a subdomain (watch.yoursite.com).
⚠️Note: If you're setting up a primary domain, (e.g. www.yoursite.com), you must set up an ALIAS for "yoursite.com" to point to the www subdomain as noted in Step 3.
⚠️Note: If your domain contains a "Certification Authority Authorization (CAA) record" you will be prohibited from connecting to your OTT site. Please remove these restrictions or update them to include Cloudflare as a provider. For assistance on this matter, please contact your DNS provider.
The following steps will result in your domain being served over a secure SSL connection for every page of your OTT site.
Step 1: Registering a Domain
- There are multiple services available for registering a domain, but some of the most popular are GoDaddy, Namecheap, and DNSimple.
Step 2: Configure DNS for the Subdomain
-
Once the domain name is registered, DNS modifications need to be made to point the domain to Vimeo OTT.
-
For "www" subdomains:
- Point ‘www’ CNAME to ‘dns.vimeo.tv’
-
For other Subdomains:
- Point the subdomain value CNAME to 'dns.vimeo.tv'
- Note: You may use any value that is appended to your domain, such as ‘watch’, ‘buy’, ‘live’, etc.
- Point the subdomain value CNAME to 'dns.vimeo.tv'
-
For "www" subdomains:
Step 3: Configure DNS for the Root Domain
(For WWW subdomains only. If you are using any other subdomain, skip this step)
In order to provide support for "yourdomain.com", you will need to make additional DNS configurations that re-route your customers to "www.yourdomain.com." This is accomplished by using an ALIAS or ANAME record.
-
Check the help documentation of your site registrar used in Step 1 to verify if they support “ALIAS” or “ANAME” records. These are a special kind of DNS Record that not every registrar supports. If they do, follow the first steps below. If they don’t, follow the second step below instead.
It is highly recommended that you leverage the ALIAS / ANAME record if your Registrar supports it. Using the second steps involves specifying an IP address to point your site which is not a best practice for domain management. Please take a moment to double-check if your Registrar supports ALIAS / ANAME records and use that when available. My Registrar Supports ALIAS/ANAME Records
- Create a new DNS Record:
- Type: ANAME (or ALIAS)
- Value: dns.vimeo.tv
- TTL: Set to 3600 if available, otherwise can be default
My Registrar Does Not Support ALIAS/ANAME Records or it is not clear
- Look for an existing A Record, usually denoted with an “@” symbol. If one doesn’t exist, make a new one
- Type: A / “@”
- Value: 104.18.230.91
- TTL: Set to 3600 if available, otherwise can be the default option
Step 4: Save changes on the OTT settings page
Next, head to your Vimeo OTT site settings page (Settings > Site). In the General tab, scroll down to the Custom Domain box and enter the site address. Click Test Domain to verify all looks good. If it does, click Save.
If your domain is already connected to OTT using the legacy “dns.vhx.tv” option, you will need to update your DNS records using the instructions above, including the final step to Test and Save your Domain in OTT.
If you have trouble enabling this, contact your domain provider.
