Once you have connected your Vimeo account and your Vimeo OTT Site, with a Vimeo account enabled with live streaming you can also broadcast your live events directly to your Vimeo OTT audience. You’ll be able to monetize your live events to Subscribers, one-time purchases (also known as Pay Per View), or both.
⚠️Note: To stream live events, you will need to be on a Vimeo OTT Enterprise plan with live streaming enabled and have a Premium, Advanced, or Enterprise account on Vimeo.com. Please reach out to Vimeo OTT Sales or your Account Manager to add live streaming capabilities to your site.
⚠️Note: Web Player does not support Chromecast for Vimeo Live Events.
After connecting to Vimeo, you’ll see a prompt to create your first live event from Vimeo. If you already have events on Vimeo but don’t see anything listed on your Vimeo OTT site, this is expected. You will select each event you want to send to OTT, so you can be selective about what your OTT audience sees.
The guide focuses on broadcasting your Vimeo Live event to your OTT channel. You can also read about creating a live event on Vimeo in detail.
To get started, first create or connect your Vimeo OTT site.
- Choose the Create live event option in the top left and you’ll be redirected to your Vimeo account to create a new live event (if you see Vimeo Events and Live Events, click on Vimeo Events to create the event). Give the event a title, and a broadcast date, and configure your schedule to begin.
2. Navigate to the Settings tab on your Live event page and then select Destinations.
3. Once connected, you will see “Vimeo OTT” listed under your Simulcast destinations for all of your Live events. Click Add to see a list of your connected Vimeo OTT Sites.
4. Choose the sites you’d like to broadcast your event to and click Save.
You’ll see those sites listed as Simulcast destinations:
5. Click the options [•••] menu next to each OTT site to access the Settings to manage your event on your OTT Site.
6. Select Settings to be taken to your event on your Vimeo OTT site where you can manage the additional settings that are necessary for your audience to view the event.
You can send live event notifications from the Distribution settings for your Live Event. Since email notifications can take up to 30 minutes to be delivered, if you choose to send live notifications we recommend you go live with a slate image well before the event's actual start time. Alternatively, you can manually send a notification from the category 30-60 minutes before going live. In-app push notifications should be delivered within minutes.
To start broadcasting, you can return to your event on Vimeo anytime by clicking the Event setup button on your Vimeo OTT Site.
Once you start broadcasting on Vimeo, your Vimeo OTT audience will also begin to receive your transmission.
Additionally, you can configure how the live event archive is distributed to your Vimeo OTT audience. You can also pre-configure this before your event starts:
- Navigate to the Distribution tab of the live event on Vimeo OTT, then select Archives.
-
You will then be given the option to Use live event settings or Custom settings.
-
By enabling the Use live event settings option, the archived live event will have the same distribution settings as the live event.
- By enabling Custom settings, you can change the way the archived live event is distributed by editing the distribution settings, such as editing which Subscription plans can access, adding it to Collections, Categories, and Products, and selecting which Regions it's available in.
-
⚠️Note: When a customer streams from Vimeo.com to OTT, the VOD is quickly available. However, if an OTT client uses DRM on their site, it will take longer to be available.
