This article covers switching Viewer Profiles on for your site and setting up the avatars viewers can choose. Setting up the child-safe experience is covered separately in Setting up the child-safe viewing experience on Vimeo OTT.
In this article:
Step 1 — Set up profile avatars
Avatars are the images viewers pick for their profiles on the Choose Profile screen. You control which images are available.
- Go to the profile pictures area in your admin (Manage > Profile Pictures).
- Upload your own branded avatars, or choose to show the Vimeo OTT default profile pictures so viewers have something to pick from out of the box.
- Once you upload your site’s own pictures, you can disable the global pictures. Viewers will then be able to pick only from the images you uploaded.
- When a new profile is created, it picks one profile picture at random from the available ones; viewers can switch it afterward if they wish.
You can also optionally set a dedicated child profile avatar—the image used on the default kid profile for your site (the one created automatically when the child experience is turned on). If you don’t set one, a platform default is used.
Step 2 — Turn on Viewer Profiles
- Open your site settings and find the Viewer Profiles setting (Manage > Site > General).
- Toggle Viewer Profiles on. This enables the Choose Profile screen for everyone on your site.
- Save. From now on, each account automatically gets its Main profile, and viewers can begin creating additional profiles.
What your existing viewers will see: Nothing is lost. Each existing viewer’s history and Continue Watching move onto their Main profile (named after them). The next time they sign in, they’ll see the Choose Profile screen and can simply pick their Main profile to carry on exactly as before.
Profile limits, names & rules (reference): Up to 4 profiles per account—one Main profile plus three more. Names can be up to 15 characters and must be unique within the account. The Main profile can’t be deleted or turned into a kid profile.
