This article discusses the features and benefits of venues for hosting interactive events, including customizable spaces, audience engagement options, and seamless integration in a browser-based environment.
In this article:
What does a venue consist of?
A venue is a destination for your single or multi-track events designed to foster richly interactive and engaging experiences with your attendees.
Venues can have unlimited “spaces,” areas for your attendees to gather. Each ‘space’ can contain a ‘stage’, though it’s not required. You can present on your stage using your webcam, screen sharing, or RTMP.
Creating a venue creates one space by default, and you can add more spaces if needed.

What sets venues apart?
Everything together in a single, browser-based setting with no additional software required:
- Schedule a single-day or multi-day event with a detailed agenda that outlines all scheduled events and speakers.
-
Use the in-browser environment to create a stage and present from it.
- Events Admins can record content being presented on-stage or capture group discussions in each space.
- For more complex on-site productions, venues are compatible with your preferred livestreaming encoder, such as Livestream Studio, OBS, Wirecast, or another live encoding tool.
-
Set privacy settings to control who can attend your event, from open to the public to only the Admin team members on your Vimeo account.
- You can also determine if your event can be embedded and shared outside of the venue (ranging from anywhere on the web, limited to certain domains, or limited to your venue only).
-
Attendees can join and interact with your event using their Vimeo account on their device, navigating from space to space within a single browser-based environment.
- They can use their device’s camera and microphone to participate in group or 1:1 audio/video discussions.
Opportunities for rich, interactive engagement
- Spaces can be customized to fit the needs of your event.
- A space can serve multiple purposes, including the main stage area, virtual lobby, sponsor booths, breakout rooms, and more.
- You can enable audience members to create their own spaces, which anyone at the event can join.
- Event runners can set permissions for audience participation levels. These can be customized per space.
- Control whether audience members can use their device’s camera and microphone to participate in the discussions, whether they can present on the stage, and more.
- Set up interactive widgets in your spaces, allowing attendees to engage without leaving the venue.
- In addition to chat and audio/video capabilities, audience members can react by recording their personalized reactions or sharing GIFs from Giphy.
