What is a virtual venue?
A venue serves as a central hub for attendees at your virtual event. It consists of the following components:
-
Spaces: Venues can have unlimited spaces, which are distinct areas for your attendees to gather.
- You can customize each space to serve a specific purpose, such as a main stage, virtual lobby, sponsor booth, or breakout room.
- By default, creating a venue creates one space. You can add more as needed.
- Stages: Each space contains a stage, where you can present using your webcam, screen sharing, or RTMP streaming.
Key features of virtual venues
Venues are fully browser-based and require no additional software for attendees.
-
Centralized production: You can schedule single or multi-day events with detailed agendas.
- Event Admins can record content presented on-stage or capture group discussions.
- For complex productions, venues are compatible with external encoders like Livestream Studio, OBS, or Wirecast.
- Privacy controls: You can set privacy settings to control who can attend, ranging from "Public" to "Team members only."
- Embedding: You can control whether your event can be embedded outside of the venue (e.g., anywhere on the web, specific domains, or nowhere).
Interactive tools and engagement for virtual venues
Attendees can interact using their Vimeo account, navigating between spaces within a single environment.
-
Audio and video participation: Attendees can use their device’s camera and microphone to participate in group or 1:1 discussions.
- Event runners can customize participation permissions per space (e.g., enabling or disabling cameras/mics for the audience).
- Widgets: You can set up interactive widgets, such as Calendly for booking meetings or Slido for quizzes, allowing engagement without leaving the venue.
- Reactions: Audience members can react to content by recording personalized video reactions or sharing GIFs via GIPHY.
