Vimeo is committed to providing customers with a secure and flexible video hosting solution that meets the needs of customers with specific data residency requirements. To support organizations that prioritize storing data within the European Union (EU), we now offer EU Data Residency. This is an optional feature that allows Enterprise customers to store video content on servers located within the EU.
In this article:
How does EU Data Residency work?
With EU Data Residency, your video content is stored on servers within the EU, specifically in Germany and Belgium. While we continue expanding EU-based storage capabilities, the following types of data are currently stored within the EU:
Stored in the region | Stored outside the region |

|
To take advantage of EU Data Residency, your team must access your Vimeo account through a custom subdomain (e.g., yourcompany.vimeo.work). This subdomain provides a dedicated and secure access point for your team and ensures videos stored in your account are stored in the EU.
To learn more about using Custom Subdomains with Vimeo Enterprise, see ‘How to set up a custom subdomain for my Vimeo Enterprise account’.
How to enable EU Data Residency
To enable EU Data Residency for your Enterprise account, please contact your Vimeo Success Team. They will guide you through the setup process, which includes:
- Confirming your desired subdomain (e.g., yourcompany.vimeo.work).
- Enabling EU Data Residency: This will ensure all new video uploads are stored within the EU.
- Accessing your account: Use your custom subdomain (e.g., yourcompany.vimeo.work) to log in.
Next steps
- After you’ve enabled EU Data Residency:
- New videos you upload will be stored in the EU.
- All of your existing data will remain stored in their original locations.
- Your Vimeo Enterprise account remains unchanged—you will not need to create a new account.
- Videos stored in the EU can be played back globally unless restricted by your video privacy settings.
- Read more about the experience of switching over to custom subdomains at ‘How to set up a custom subdomain for my Vimeo Enterprise account’.
