What to know before creating custom groups
- If your account is an Enterprise organization with multiple workspaces, you must be an Organization admin to create and manage custom groups.
- Workspace admins can then invite groups to an individual workspace.
- If the above doesn't apply to you, you have a single-workspace Enterprise account. In that case, you must be either the account owner or an admin to manage custom groups.
How to create a custom group
- After logging into Vimeo, open the account dropdown menu on the top right of the screen.
- Select the option that says either Manage team or Manage organization.
- From the left sidebar, select Groups to create a new group or to view existing.
- Click on the New group button to create a new group.
- When a prompt appears on your screen, type your desired group name.
- Add the names of the members you want to include in the group and select Create group.
How to assign a group role
Assign a role to all current and future users inside your user group.
- Click on the options menu icon. Select Set default role.
- Click on the dropdown to assign a role.
How to invite a group into a workspace
If your Enterprise account is an organization with multiple workspaces, you have an additional layer of permission management. Organization admins can create and manage groups at the organization level as described above or using SSO.
In addition, if you are a workspace admin, you can invite any group in the org to your workspace. To do so:
- Open the account dropdown menu in the upper right corner, then select Settings.
- On the left-hand side, select Groups.
- Select Invite group.
- Search the group name, hover over it, and select Invite.
- Choose a role for that group: Admin, Contributor, or Viewer. All members of that group will be given that permission within that workspace unless they were individually given a different permission level.
- Select Invite.
- All members of that group will now have the assigned role in your workspace.
Making the most out of groups
- If your Enterprise team uses SSO to log into Vimeo, you can create groups automatically using SAML and SCIM.
