Privacy settings overview
Vimeo offers the following privacy options for your videos:
- Public (Available with all plans): Anyone can watch the video, and the page will be discoverable in search engines. Additionally, the video will be visible on your account profile.
-
Unlisted (Available with Plus, Starter, and higher plans; and all accounts created after 11/22/2024): Unlisted videos will not appear in public search results (such as Google), but they can be accessed and shared by anyone who has the video's unique URL. These videos can also be embedded anywhere online. Viewers do not need a Vimeo account to watch an unlisted video.
-
⚠️Note: When you change your video's privacy settings to Unlisted, an extra set of numbers - what we call the privacy hash - will be added at the end of your video's URL, and must be included for embeds and sharing to work.
-
- Password (Available with all plans except Free): Set a password for the video. Anyone who enters that password can watch the video. Viewers do not need a Vimeo account to watch a password-protected video.
- Hide from Vimeo (Available with all plans except Free): The video can be embedded and viewed on other sites but does not have a video page on Vimeo. Your video cannot appear in channels and groups but can still be added to showcases and portfolios. Viewers do not need a Vimeo account to watch a video hidden from Vimeo.
-
Private (Available with all plans): The video will be visible only to you (the owner), account admins, and any team members granted access to the video or the folder it's in. It will not be viewable to anyone outside of your Vimeo account. (Adding team members to a Vimeo account is not supported with Free, Basic, or Plus plans.)
- If you are on an Enterprise account with SSO enabled and want to share videos internally within your organization, consider using the Private setting to ensure that only authenticated team members with permissions granted can access the content.
