How to start and stop IP restrictions on the allowlist for my Vimeo Enterprise account

This feature requires an Enterprise plan.

Owners and Admins of Vimeo Enterprise accounts with custom subdomains have the option to restrict access to certain administrative features by specifying allowed IP addresses, ranges, or CIDR blocks. When enabled, this setting blocks login attempts to admin functions from IP addresses that are not explicitly permitted.

What to know before starting or stopping IP restrictions

Before you use the allowlist to start or stop IP restrictions, take note of the following: 

This feature does not guarantee complete protection against unauthorized access and should be used in conjunction with other recommended security practices. Vimeo is not responsible for access gained through misconfigured settings or circumvention of IP restrictions.

Allowlists are designed to add an extra layer of access control, helping safeguard sensitive management functionalities on your account, complementing Vimeo’s existing identity and access management tools. 

How to start or stop restrictions for an individual address

You can temporarily restrict access to individual entries on the allowlist.

To start or stop restrictions for an individual address or range: 

  1. From the account’s settings page, select Allowlist.
  2. On the allowlist, at the right of the user’s address or range, select the overflow menu (⋮).
  3. Select pause access. 
    The 'Allowlist' settings page displays a table of IP addresses with their nicknames, status, and other details. An overflow menu (three vertical dots) for a specific IP address entry is open, and the 'Pause access' option within this menu is highlighted, indicating the action to temporarily restrict access for that IP.
  4. The address status will switch to Paused. Users logging into the Enterprise account from a paused IP address will be blocked and receive the same error message as users not on the allowlist.
  5. To unpause access, select the overflow menu (⋮) again and choose Resume access. This will restore access for the IP address.

How to start or stop restrictions for the entire allowlist 

In addition to each entry, you can also start or stop restrictions for the entire allowlist. The Admin & the Owner are both subject to the IP restrictions; however, they do have the ability to manage the allow list and disable this feature.

To pause or resume restrictions for the entire allowlist: 

  1. To restrict access for the whole allowlist, select the Restrict Access toggle at the top of the allowlist. This will prevent all users on the allowlist from accessing the Admin features on the account.
  2. Untoggle to resume access for the whole allowlist.
