How long will it take for my analytics to appear after I upgrade my subscription?

When you switch to a higher plan, you’ll get access to our full suite of video analytics right away, but it will take some time for our backend to prepare statistics for reports you did not previously have. This process should take about a day.

Can I export my analytics?

If you’re a Vimeo paid member, you can export files. At the bottom of any analytics report, you have the option to export your data into a CSV. Any filters applied will be reflected in the exported CSV. 

Additionally, CSV exports will only include the top-level data from each report. Therefore, higher plan members will not be able to download second-level data points such as city or region, exact embed URLs, or browser/OS versions in their reports. This information is only available online.

Can I change the timezone for my analytics?

To ensure we’re all seeing the same thing, our analytics use UTC — both in what we display on-site and in what we provide when we export the data into a CSV file. You can quickly find the difference between your time zone and UTC by searching for your city name at the time. is.

Do my interactions with my videos count in my analytics?

When you're logged in to your account, your impressions, views, and downloads do not count toward your video analytics, so long as you’re interacting with your video in the same browser in which you’re logged in.

Are my Vimeo analytics accurate?

Why am I seeing different numbers in different areas of my analytics?

For reports that generate more than 100 rows, we only show the top 100 results. Therefore, the sum of those 100 rows may differ from the totals displayed elsewhere in analytics that reflect all videos or results.

What analytics does Vimeo record if I display my video in a third-party player?

Unfortunately, there isn’t very much data we can gather from views that don’t occur within the Vimeo player.

For Standard or Pro members and higher, using third-party player links (e.g., Dash.js and HLS.js), we can only approximate the number of times the file is being played. Multiple impressions/views by the same viewer in the same browser session will not be counted (like they are when our own player is used).

We also cannot count finishes or any engagement analytics for these views. In many cases, we will still be able to detect the website where the view is happening, the location of the view, and the device; however, this is less reliable than it would be with our own player.

What does "Unknown" mean in my analytics?

When we record an impression or view on your video but are unable to determine the device, location, or website where it originated, we count it toward your total analytics under "Unknown."

If you've set up domain-level privacy, any analytics listed as "Unknown" are only coming from the domains you've specifically allowed.

My source URL report has a row that displays only a slash (/) rather than a complete URL. What does that mean?

If you expand the table on your source URL report page and notice that one row doesn't display a page URL but instead just a forward slash (/), this is usually because the referrer policy of the page with the embed is not permissive enough to send the full referrer. To obtain the full path, you will need to change the referrer policy to one that allows the page to provide the player with the full referrer.

How do I hide my video analytics from viewers?

To hide your video analytics from the public, navigate to your account settings by clicking "Account Settings" from the top navigation of your profile page, located next to your profile picture. Once you're in Settings, click on the "Videos" tab on the left side, and then check the option under Video Preferences that says “I prefer not to share my video analytics with other people.”

Note: This only hides analytics on your video page and in search. They will remain visible in any collections to which they have been added.

Why am I seeing a dash or “Data unavailable” under likes and comments?

Likes and comments are not applicable in some reports. For example, they can’t be broken down by region, device, or source URL because we aren’t able to capture this information.

How do I see views by device?

How is engagement calculated?

We provide a second-by-second report on a particular viewing session. Based on this data, we compile engagement estimations that show how many of your viewers reached specific points in your video. (Note: These reports are available for Pro, Business, and Premium members only.)

On viewer retention stats, each play is tracked from the point of the video when the user starts watching (usually 0:00, but sometimes later) to the maximum timestamp we are able to detect (within a single browser session).

We can account for parts skipped in a viewing session, which means some graphs may slope downward and then upward again towards the end. Viewers scrubbing back on the video will not change the shape of the graph. 

What do I do if my analytics aren't loading?

Try refining your filters to be as specific as possible -- larger queries can take longer to run. For example, instead of filtering for 2023, filter for April to July 2023. If the issue persists, please contact our Support team.

What if my video is not collecting analytics?

As a first step, we'd recommend checking your player parameters. If you've added a DNT (Do Not Track) parameter in your video embed code, it may be blocking the player from collecting accurate analytics. For more about player parameters, visit Player parameters overview. 

Are analytics tracked for videos embedded within Google Slides/PowerPoint?

No. We can't track analytics for videos embedded within Google Slides and/or PowerPoint.

What counts as an impression vs. a view?

Impressions: The number of times your video was "loaded" on a Vimeo clip page or another website where it's embedded.

Views: The number of times the video started playing.
